I know I've seen a place somwhere where it's possible to check if any .edu or .gov sites are linking to your website. Anyone know where?
I've done a google search, but can't find it again.

Unless your site is very well established or you've actively submitted links to .edu or .gov sites, I'd say there is a fair chance you don't have many (or any).

That being said, go get some :)

They are "Authority" links and are some of the best links you can get pointing to your site.

Because they are perceived by search engines as harder to obtain. Generally they are but there are a lof of university sites with blogs....

I think you are referring to this tool. It checks for you automatically (although it should be fairly easy to do manually for most sites). It uses Yahoo's Site Explorer because that gives a more complete picture than Google, which is very selective about the inlinks it displays.

    Hope that helps.

    1. Go to your google webmaster account>>links>>external links>> download details (the button at the bottom of the ggle page)

Then, simply search ".edu" or '.gov" from the list.

    It works perfectly.

    2.
Another option: if a site .gov or .edu links to your site, it uses probably the name of your site or your major keyword. So simply search the name with google advanced search limiting your search to domain .edu or. gov.
