I have been using Zend Studio for years and have been very pleased. I simply couldn't imagine coding without the many features it provides including debugging, code completion, mysql connection, and the many other bells and whistles. I am currently evaluating phped which I suspect will be as good or better. But for me, I'll need to run into a feature "I just can't live without", to warrant spending $250 for an editor so similar to what I'm using. Best, Grant
I use Crimson Editor, which text editor with syntax highlighting of more than 150 languages. I simply love it for more details check out http://codingtricks.blogspot.com/2008/07/very-useful-text-and-code-editor.html
I'm not a fan of setting up the local server on dreamweaver... it's easier to set up a server on your own machine with xampp or wamp, or lamp... i've heard there's quite a few good free editors on linux too
I have been using Zend Studio for about a year now and have to say it is the best move I made. I was using dreamweaver for all my coding jobs. Now I use Zend for PHP and dreamweaver for HTML stuff. I know a lot of people will say use notepad, but with the code completion abilities, error checking , and code coloring it makes it so much easier to get jobs done quicker and with a higher quality.
doesn't anybody here use ultraedit / uestudio IDE? it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, really.
I use zend studio but after trying the nusphere phped trial, I am making the $300 switch. I found the editor is both easy to use and extremely functional. I had ftp, mysql, remote debugging, file sync, terminal window, and other features up and running in a couple hours with virtually no hangups. Documentation was good enough that I never resorted to web for answers. I'm hooked. Grant
Quick heads up related to my phped post. Nusphere is offering a $199 special on phped pro (I am in no way affiliated). So if you're on the fence about making the purchase, now is the time. The site mentions the special ends Tomorrow. Best, Grant
I've started using PSPad as it's free, colours the markup and connects with my FTP servers. Prior to that, I've used Dreamweaver MX 2004 and vi - this is definitely the most straightforward.
For doing a whole application i use komodo IDE, but for quick edits etc Forklift(for the file/site handling) & textmate.
Started coding on Notepad++, then tested almost every PHP IDE available and my favourite one of them is PHPEdit (119€ with FTP extension)
Eclipse PDT : 105.6M What's so big in this app ( tools, options, etc. ) ? I prefer using Notepad++ on WIN32 and gedit for *nix based systems ! Speed is king, which really depends on the size ( libs, etc. ) of app ..
Hey I was just about to post for this, I searched google and the threads I found were too old to be acurate, thanks for the post, has anyone tried Netbeans?
