What if my keyword is my URL. Will I get top?

My CEO tool tells me my keyword is not in my URL !

How well does this improve your ranking in Google?

    For example....

Take this keyword phrase "wedding gift ideas"

It has a popularity of 284'000 pages targeting that keyword on google uk.

Google keyword research tool shows Approx Search Volume: January 33'000

    I purchase "weddinggiftideas.co.uk

    Built my website

Then I structured my site with quality content targeting that keyword.

    Submit Sitemaps to google.

    Then Wait...............

Will I rank page 1 in google over time without the need for hundreds of link backs?

You will still need a lot of quality backlinks. The difference is that every link that just uses www.weddinggiftideas.co.uk as the anchor text also has your keywords in it. So a greater percentage of your links has keyword rich anchor text. Keyword rich domains help, but it doesn't mean they require half the work. If that were the case, every keyword search would just be full of domains that closely match the keyword phrase.

keywords in the URL is a bonus but it's not magic. you will still need to work just as hard as anybody who doesnt have the keywords in the URL!

I shall not worry too much about my websites not having my keywords in the domain then. Good point though Vans, if your domain is your keyword the easier it is to have quality backlinks!

For a noncompetitive keyword(s), having it in the domain will surely help. I hit #1 from the beginning with my keyword-in-domain. But it is noncompetitive. However, the fact that it jumped immediately to #1 out of 575,000 results shows that the keyword being in the domain at least helped some.

I have noticed a huge difference in ranking when the key term is in the domain.

    I agree with this.
One additional tip on keyword rich domains. Google gives more credit to keyword domains that are not hyphenated.

Ex: creditcards.com is better than credit-cards.com

The theory behind this is: As more quality domain names are harder to find, the domains that are not hyphenated may indicate that the site is older and more trusted.

seo tools follow the standards that have been fed into them. we all know keywords help. having them in your URL will certainly help you but won't guarantee the top slot

It'll help with rankings in terms of relevance, but you'll still be required to get the necessary backlinks to beat your competitors. Ultimately, I'd say its advantages are more ocular than computational; people will view your site in the SERPs and will feel more inclined to click on it.

Keywords in your URL is beneficial and an added advantage but not the sure shot formula to get first page google ranking. You have to built a good website with useful content.

The point about hyphenated URL is interesting!! I read that if you do use them only use it once otherwise Google get fishy?

In other words. top-credit-cards.com Vs top-creditcards.com
the later being a better option.

The other thing about hyphenated URL is will your visitor land on a different site because they did not put the hyphens in? They go to housesforsale.com instead of houses-for-sale.com

I agree that in general, the fewer the better, or none at all if possible. I don't know if there is a distinction between one hyphen or multiple.

That's a good point, if someone types the wrong URL, they may end up on your competition's site. Hadn't thought of that :)
