I am new to this SEO industry. I want to know what steps have to be follow for get listed in the search engines for a new website.

I would recommend you to read seomoz.org website, they have good articles. Dunno about their paid site, because I have never used it, but free articles were amazing, it covers everything, how to start, on and off page SEO and etc.
