Way too expensive!! I am currently using Windows 7 and I really like it, although I would never pay that much for an OS, they should price it at like $129 same as OSX... Well either way It won't have an impact on me since I'll get Windows my own way ..
If they do sell at that price alot more people will switch to mac or linux. They might as well shoot them selves in the leg if they priced it that high. Plus if people did want it piracy for it would go off the charts. Either way it's a louse louse situation for Microshaft if they do do this.
It seems that the prices of every OS release keeps going up and up. You used to be able to buy XP home edition at wal-mart for $90 (US dollars). And now Windows 7 Starter is going to be 2X what XP home edition was? Bah, sounds like the consumers are getting ripped off.
Customers are being ripped off. If a Linux operating system got $20 for every copy, which is a small amount compared to that of what Microsoft gets, there wouldn't be any bugs in Linux anymore, as they would be able to work full time on their operating system instead of part time. Not to mention the amount of publicity they could buy. Literally that would shut down Microsoft in about 3 - 5 years if that did happen.Until then, i'll keep making my $20 a year contributions to: ubuntu, fedora, debian and centos...
Still I agree their is an option for Linux OS but what about the features you are getting in Microsoft Windows, you wont get it in linux and I dont think that paying this much would be too expensive,if you even have got Windows XP original then their would be option to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 at cheaper prices
The only feature you don't get in linux is the ability to run windows programs, but wine will be fixing that shortly. On the plus side I agree, they should have a cheaper way to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7, a price of $70.00 would seem fair to me and $50 for Vista upgrades.
In the end, we are paying more money for an operating system that runs slower and uses more resources. For the consumer, that poor bad business investment.
A week ago i bought a netbook from Toshiba for 329 euros with Windows XP Home Edition and guess what...it rocks!!! but at this point i ask how much a Notebook or Netbook will cost if sold with Windows 7?, if these prices are true then i think Microsoft will loose a big market's section, but once again i'm not sure at all these prices are right ...
Those prices are not real - I contacted a Microsoft rep about it and was told that it is false information.
