    Stay in school.
You failed to take into account living expenses with your equation.

You should also consider that if you continue to earn $20,000 for another 4 years and the person with the degree earns $60,000 a year then:

    20k x 4 = $80,000

    Where as the Degree person:

    60k x 4 = $240,000

    ;)

Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison Michael J. Fox, Peter Jennings, Dave Thomas, Henry Ford, and Jim Carrey didn't even make it to college.

The problem seems to ba that "too" many people are only thinking about the economic benefits.

If that's all you need to consider, then a university degree might not be something you need in order to be successful.

my opinion on going to university is very mixed to be honest.

A lot of people i know went for the wrong reasons.. just so they can waste a few years and not work.. which is a total waste of money..

Others go thinking they will walk out into a $60,000 P/A job.

FACT: going to uni DOES NOT mean your guaranteed a high paid job, of course it increases your chances but its no guarantee.

If you really want to go for the right reasons then yes its a good idea - it does help a lot to have a degree in this day and age.

Hate to say its a double edged sword - but, employers love college grads becuase they know you HAVE to work due to student loans. And again some positions you wont have access to without a degree. My suggestion is to always have some part time gig going on the side - should something fall in your lap or through.

University is a waste of time. I wish I never went. really it is just an excuse for people who dont know what to do with there life so they spend money thining it will help them when many times it is a burden to carry rather than an asset.

I say go to a specialzed school for a very very specific job otherwise learn from experience in life

I believe that it definitely is important. It's more than just learning stuff. It's a great time to forge new friendships and have many life experiences. Like gammo said it also helps to prepare you mentally for tasks ahead of you.

My parents always wanted me to go to college and get an education, but my parents are idiots so I was skeptical about the whole school thing.

Just out of the way, I am:-

    1. 9th grade fail x 1 times ...repeater ...heeeeeeeee

    2. 10th grade fail but passed with gracing marks after my friend managed it for me :D

    3. 11th grade fail but passed after my dad told someone to manage it :D

    4. 12th grade fail x 3 times because no one managed anything for me this time :D

Basically, didn't wanted to study and never was interested either. But after my family members started pressurising me to continue further since I failed in 12th x 3 times, I warned them that I will leave the home and since then a happy creature :D
