Does Bounce Rate really matter?

Well I got my proxy site a lot of traffic but here's what happened:
Before the good amount of traffic I had on average 5 UV a day and 100% Bounce Rate (really bad i know).

NOW, I have about 100-300UV per day and my bounce rate has gone down but only to 72.52%.
My other proxy is the same way.

Is this a really bad thing?

Because technically some people are using my site, but not everyone, between 28-84 of the people visiting my site are actually using it.

The lower the bounce rate, the higher chance you get click/lead/sell.
Of course it will be better if the bounce rate is zero

Well it is quite a high bounce rate but then again it's a proxy. Maybe try to figure out why people are bouncing so badly, there may be something sticking out.

Does Google rank you lower if you have high bounce rate for specific search term?

    Bounce rate is over rated.

Low bounce rate means more bandwidth, more page views and more exposure on your ads. And if your ads got a good exposure and you have a better ad placement on your proxy site then for sure it will get you more clicks.

But IMO 60% - 100% bounce rate is more like the same....

Oh okay cool. Thanks for clarifying that for me. I was just wondering if sometime in the future I would be hit with "YOUR BOUNCE RATE WAS SO HIGH" and have it actually affect me negatively. But hey, as long as im not affected I should be good.

Higher bounce rate simply means that the visitors to your site do not get attracted by your site's layout and content and hence they simply go away without spending much time, meaning lesser scope for you to monetize such traffic.(Of course, if the traffic is genuine and not the paid one..;))

Good layout and good content is the only key to holding your visitors for longer time..

    Regards,

Let me clarify my question: So if your bounce rate is like 100%, does Google actually take away your ranking on a search term? I am not talking about google pagerank.
    Thanks.

thats an un intelligent thing to say... of course bounce rate is important analytic. its a good measure of how relevent your page is in regards the keyword.
