Leaving Blog Comments - Is There Any Value?

Discussion in 'Blogging' started by gooseandluba, Feb 8, 2009.

Suppose your site is about games, what is the most effective way to create your blog links?

    1. "Games" as your name with a link to your site.
2 . "Bob" as your name with a link to your site.

Using example 1 is obviously more effective but your comment may be deleted and you run the risk of being reported.

Using example 2 does not really allow for an anchor text. So which is best?

    MORE QUESTIONS

    1. Is there any value at all to leaving comments on "no follow" blogs or does it depend on the PR of that page?

    2. Is there any value at all to leaving comments on "do follow" blogs but with a PR of only 0 or 1?

    3. Is there any value or penalty to leaving comments on a blog that has nothing to do with your niche or does it depend on the blogs PR?

    Let's hear ya!

1 = why not, if blog is high traffic,
2 = yes, every (related) link counts
    3 = don't waste your time

There is always benefit to leaving comments if you can drop a link to your site. The immediate and most important is that other commenters will follow the link and check you out.

The downside of leaving comment is, if you are not truly a reader of that blog, your comment stands out like a sore thumb and most likely will get deleted by a savvy webmaster, especially one that can sniff out someone just looking for a link.

I don't focus on leaving links/comments for PR juice, I am more concerned with getting the possible traffic from it, and hopefully picking up some new readers.

Quality traffic should be your ultimate goal, if you have that you will attain links naturally if you have good content.

Leave your name as "Bob", leave a relevant comment to the post and mention your site... in a relevant way.

For instance, A wants to know the best flash games.

You talk about how you love Castle Crashers because it's SO addictive... the site you used to play it on got shut down, so now you have it set up on your site.

I agree with hmans. Leave a comment for traffic purposes not for PR. Make sure it is a related niche site and make sure the comment is relevant and adds value to the post.

I have several blogs and I approve or deny every comment made to my blog. If it is on topic and adds some value it is on. If it is stupid like 'great post" or 'you have a great blog", I normally deny it.

Leaving a comment for PR is useless because many blog posts go off the main page and end up with no PR anyway. On the other hand, a PR0 blog could be PR5 on next update. Leave comments for back links and traffic and any PR juice will just be icing on the cake.

I agree. Relevancy is key for comments to be useful.

Also.. @allout and others in this thread..

How often do people leave comments on your blog? Do you think that there is a bunch of people that could be leaving comments, but they just can't be bothered or don't have any motivation to do so?

    1. "Games" as your name with a link to your site.
2 . "Bob" as your name with a link to your site.

Love StarCraft or something like it ;). Nobody delete your comment.

    1. Is there any value at all to leaving comments on "no follow" blogs or does it depend on the PR of that page? You still get more traffic

    2. Is there any value at all to leaving comments on "do follow" blogs but with a PR of only 0 or 1? I think yes, yes and yes

    3. Is there any value or penalty to leaving comments on a blog that has nothing to do with your niche or does it depend on the blogs PR? I think NO :)

Use the word games, backlinks with the keyword basically.

No follow value, yes there is.

Whats the point of leaving a comment on a blog thats not related? it will either be deleted or if its left in place its clearly a spam orgy going on at that blog and best steering clear of. :)

Post real comments too, much more success with them, avoid the following:

"i agree", "good post", "great blog" "wow, that looks good" the blog owner knows the commenter was too lazy and just after the backlink.

I agree with comments above, use a believable name that also incorporates something to do with games.

    I think there is value.

I comment on lots of blogs and people often come to my blog from these blogs so even if it does not increase your PR it will get you traffic and it only takes 30 seconds to leave a comment.

Leaving a comments with Anchor text is Best coz u are getting Backlink and SERP, But maybe your comments will be deleted. So leaving a comments with your name (bob) is also a good idea coz your comments will not be deleted! You are getting at list the back links from that comments.
