Using your neighbours wireless

I paid for a home broadband dongle from 02 yesterday and the connection speed is pathetic, it takes 5 mins to load my facebook homepage, i was really dissapointed until i viewed the available networks and found that it picked up 5 wireless signals, out of those 5 only 1 is unlocked and the signal is very low, however the connection is 54mb per second so its well rapid.

there are other networks with a more reliable connetion but they are locked, i was wondering if anyone has tried this software and could give me the lowdown and does it actually work

... while you're at it, why don't you just hack their systems and steal CC#s to pay for a better connection for yourself. They are locked for a reason - so people like you won't steal their bandwidth.

I dont know where you live, but accessing a network without permission could be a crime.

Its not worth being arrested or going to jail over.

If it is left open, then I use it, if it is locked then I respect that and don't try to use it. Hell, I'm typing this while using someone in my buildings connection...

If someone else unlocks our connection and send threatening mail to some others, then only we will feel the pain.

So even if a connection is on unlock condition, don't use it. May be the guy who owns it don't know how to lock it.

It's not a matter of how much they use per second. They pay for it, and lock it so others won't use it. A lot of ISPs limit the bandwidth per month or even charge per bandwidth used.

54mbps is your connection to the router, not the download speed you get from the broadband internet.

If you connect a RJ45 ethernet cable from your LAN to your computer, it supposedly can support speed up to 100mbps.

A good rule of thumb is that software which facilitates "questionable" activity is always going to leave you open to attack in some way.

    POOH LOVES HUNNY

Have you considered the possibility that your neighbour is running a honey pot and is monitoring EVERYTHING that you run through his/her network?

    • Email passwords
    • DP login/password
    • Banking passwords
    • MySpace/Facebook passwords
    • blablabla etc etc

Well, like Kerosene said.. Open networks may be a trap to get your account credentials.
