No follow attribute is generally been applied on external links or non-important pages of the website to stop passing page's link juice.

Manish, do u mean that we should use nofollow in our navigation In order to get the high page rank for the index page. What if there is 50 internal pages linked with index page. ?

I have not mentioned anywhere that you should apply no follow attribute to all of you internal pages links in your navigation. However, I would suggest you to apply no follow attributes to some of your internal pages like privacy policy, disclaimer etc, that have less value in Google's eyes because passing page rank to these pages would be useless.

I know that google will not index those pages having nofollow in their url. But will it help the index page to get higher PR ?

Obviously, If you are applying no follow attribute to external links, your page rank will not be passed to those websites. Hence, improvement in page rank..:)

This nofollow attribute can avoid you from farm link that Google don't like it.

Use it for the right target can made your PR increase. And Google trusted it.

No follow links are just to discourage spammers from posting comments but "no follow' links from a site still should have importance because other "do follow" links might be following them.

nofollow was introduced by google for use on blog comments which wordpress now uses as a default option, to prevent blog commenting spam.

If your site is about "Health" and you are getting 5K unique visitors daily, and I want to advertise my "Web Design Blog" on your site just to get traffic and I don't care if it is targeted traffic or not so I will buy the ad and you will place "Nofollow" on my link because my site is not related to your site's content. And google says that if you sell ad/link that is not related to your site's content please tell our bot about it by using "nofollow" on that link.

Google will not go and kill you that why did you put a link that is not related to your site.

I hope you got the point that what is the use of nofollow link :)

Google crawler will not be able to check the theme of a website that has nofollow attribute as it will simply ignore that website.

Google explain some cases where it considers nofollow, in its support section Google says, that paid links could hurt the website rankings(however, they didn't mention how they will trace the paid links exactly), so one should apply nofollow attribute on those links.

It is no where mentioned that a link with nofollow attribute will be considered as non-thematic or paid link.

    What you say Glitto..:)

First do the research and then comment.

Google has no problem with the particular page or the whole website if it has nofollow attribute in it.
