A totally different approach. Completely out-of-the-box layout.. I've tried to be as creative as I can get. Used the crown (tiled) as a background texture.. and gave the body a 'notebook' type look. Let me know for further revisions. Also, the main image can be a flash slideshow with 5 pictures of charlotte skyline. (number can be adjusted)
Hi all, This is the first and last time I'll waste my time on a contest entry at DP. Good bye. Kind regards, Phenomenon
Thanks guys, the last 3 submissions are moving in the right direction. I will give individual feed back soon. But I wanted to announce that I will be end this contest in about 24 hours. At which time I will either have a winner that I will continue to work with or I will choose 2-3 designers to finish the contest. So if you were planning on entering or making another entry, do it over the next 24 hrs. thanks Scott
Strange attitude You got feedback and didn't submit a revision, not really a waste of time you just gave up!
Ok Now we are cooking, these designs are really getting it done, it will be difficult to choose a winner. Individual Feedback- Ritesh2048- Too traditional of a design overall Name is too small I don't like the navigation location There are too many compartments of text etc. That is a Kings Crown, not sure what text with it, maybe "Queen City" Review previous feedbacks Shinan- I like it overall I like the color scheme and your use of them in the theme I like the queen's crown in the background I like the organization of blocks and their size I like the footer The top has too much wasted space, I would probably leave no more than 2 rows of queen's crowns up top. I like the idea of multiple skylines slide show, but eliminate the numbers. The name should be larger and more prominent I like the creativity of the notebook and paperclip, but I don't think it works for this one. So eliminate those, The navigation doesn't really need to be attached, it could just hang, but if you want to try and attach it, then make it a modern or industrial type attachment. I like the paper fade on the page so that it isn't the stark white against the background, but maybe not a paper fade? (The paper fade is fine and can stay, but i just wonder if something else could do a better job) I generally like the navigation, but i would probably overlap it with the page? not sure, but it is missing something. The buttons on the navigation should be a little bit larger. I would like to see the skyline image much larger, maybe stretching from side to side, or close to it. Brain Pain I like the creativity of the skyline and navigation movement, but it just isn't working for me. I don't like the navigation on the top of the skyline. The name doesn't look like it belongs The footer should go in the footer I like the stripes, but they should be muted a bit. The body needs a little work. Hetzenauer I like the creativity and originality. I don't think those are Charlotte Buildings, and if so, then it should feature the big one in the skyline The orange is the wrong color for that sign The lady is wrong for that sign The sign is a good element though, maybe it should be a "Search box" or part of the navigation. The navigation at the top isn't so obvious and doesn't go well as far as style. The name should be larger. I would probably have the text over the bottom of the left skyscraper so that it gave the body a better structure. Bizzard Looks Great I like the addition of the background color scheme and footer I love the translucent navigation over the skyline. And of course the body is right on I like the coloration and black line divider of your first design over this one. The crown is a king's crown, i would probably use the queen's crown everyone else is using or the other one i included. I think crown is out of place, and would probably use it on a a icon on the bottom 2 blocks or something I would like to see the skyline stretch the whole width or close to it. It is big enough now as is, so it may not be necessary, but it is worth a shot. austin-G At least you are aware of it, I appreciate you mentioning it, because sometimes i bang my head, wondering where the design came from. But sometimes as a designer, a customer doesn't know what they want or their ideas of what they want are not a good idea or workable, and it's up to the designer to interpret and get an effective design. But really, your design is really on to something. I like the idea of the whole skyline taking the entire site with a fade in the middle. Of course as you already know, it should be a daylight Charlotte skyline The name should be larger. AlyGames Wow, probably my favorite background and use of skyline. Stunning You actually took a night skyline and made it bright and cheery enough to work. But everything else needs help. I would prefer if the name was on the left side, but it is ok where it is considering the skyline. The navigation though needs to be on left side, and maybe vertical. The blocks of text need to blend better as the difference is too stark. Maybe use a translucent blocks for the body and/or navigation. Look to Bizzards and Shinan, for a good organization of content, but maybe it won't work exactly for you on this design, just use it as inspiration for elements. Blend or shrink the footer better. Get rid of all your extra icons in the body texts and just use the queen's crown Change your map and contact box into a "Search Charlotte Homes" box The yellow color for the map color doesn't match the design Once again guys thanks for stepping up the designs. Scott
Probably not too much to your liking.. but it was worth a shot.. another entry from me.. This is just to make winning chances big
well i modified 2 versions: and the second one The search box can be modified in any way. feedback appreciated
A preview idea for home page... I wait for your opinion. If you like the style I will work on more modifications if it's needed. Any change to improve it that you want, just tell me. Regards. I' m working on a different style menu.
Really, the images you provided are all crap (excuse my expression). There is no way in heaven or hell you will get a good design from those images. Drop them or find better ones we can really work with. I admit my inspiration is at a low point, but those skylines you provided push you to create a mondain design and that's not what you want. You should notice that allthou there are several brilliant designers here on DP, none of them joined your contest. Give some freedom if you want some great designs to chose from. Just my 2 cents... Regards.
Well, I provided you with over 500 skylines to choose from of Charlotte. I am sorry you couldn't find one you liked??? Obviously they are not the high definition quality as i am not going to pay upwards of $200 for a photo to experiment with. So I will take it as constructive criticism, but I am confused what I should have done differently. No ones theme have been judged by the type or quality of the pictures they chose, because the pictures will have to be switched anyway and we will make the final determination of which skyline to use when we tweak the winning design. Your design had potential and the idea was very good, the fact you didn't use Charlotte buildings was really not that big of a deal, they can easily be replaced. Lastly, it is the designer's prerogative to show the idea and then explain what they need to make the design complete. Thanks Scott
