Im almost starting my third year, i started to feel that its really boring. becuase in this global financial crisis millions of jobs just terminated... If i saved the $60,000 that im spending for my university... and worked instead and earned $20,000 a year X 4 years = $80,000 adding them to the 60,000 u saved, = $140,000 You really can start a huge business so you OWN the business. While if u finish studies and u have Zero $$$.. u will work as an employee with a limited salary.. What do you think?
looking back, and knowing now that I am mostly self taught, in my opinion college was a waste of time, but what can you do!! I mean, it's not all bad, you do learn a lot, but in this digital age, depending on the type of profession you are aiming for, there's really no need to spend a fortune on some lousy piece of paper that says you graduated from some overpriced educational institute.
Everything depends on industry and your interests . Many fields really need university but if you have planned to open your business than you can go for small crash courses too if their is any need .
I think it's important, especially where I am, a smallish town, it's a lot harder to start a business, there are less people to buy the products/services and less shops to buy/rent. I'd prefer to get qualified and work for someone.
I't depend on your location, some place you don't need any good level on study to build up your self and move to business. But, if you really want to evolve your business i think you need a good score in study to prove others on your ability to handle that business and get a loan. You can start to work and develop a business but I'm hardy denied the important of education.
You are already into the third year and so continue your sojourn at the University till you get a degree. The global financial problem and unemployment may look serious but they are only temporary. No wonder, you may realize the importance of the formal degree at a later date. But it is not too late to start your online business right now as a part time one. Good luck
University is like a food - you will not be able to live without it ! Sure, there are always some exceptions, but mostly it's a proof, that you have something to achieve
It's hard to believe that Bill Gates dropped out from Harvard University, and he had no university degree! So what?
Almost all companies today ask for educational qualifications. Financial crisis & jobs crisis are just temporary problems.
I already said - you can always find exceptions .. Just curious - how old are you ? This "So what?" thing really depends on your age and what your doing .. I had the same feeling - why the f*** I need it .. But now - completely different situation !
For me, studying in university can help you a lot. I've learned so much during my stay in university. Despite the fact that I'm accounting graduate, I ended up working at home. Truly, it is not quite fulfilling up to now because I’m still newbie here but I'm earning enough money that can support my living and set aside some of my earning to start up some business. Still, your decision will depend on your goal in life. Goodluck!
University is important, but there are still opportunities for school leavers to work their way up the career ladder. It depends on what you're studying too. The Government here in the UK wants half of all school leavers to go to university, so the universities have started increasingly wacky (and worthless) degree courses to attract people who traditionally just aren't suited to university study. In a few years time the UK is going to have the best educated hairdressers and shop assistants in the world. What's the effing point of that?
University is important to make best career for you. But with study if you have some spare time, you will do some part time job or do some good business and earn moeny.
I must say that for me University education has opened my eyes to a lot of things I may have otherwise missed out on. Apart from the fact that it helps you prepare mentally and psychologically for whatever task or tasks you are planning to do after having completed your course, it helps you get a feel of dealing with people at different levels and exposes you to different cultures, which all in all makes you a more well-rounded individual. So I believe that a University education is important.
