Does 3 way linking still work?

Does anyone know if 3way linking still work or has the search engines found a way around it? Would it be safer to 4 way link and above?

I'm pretty sure that it does still work. It is just hard to find any reliable 3way link partners. It is usually the spammer seo companies that use that technique. Those people often remove links or offer links from junk websites.

Also as with all of these techniques you must try it to see if it has a benefit. And so much depends on the 'strength' of your site. If your domain is new, has few links, has generally low trust links, has many outbound links - then you run the risk of this technique causing your site to be penalised by google.

as already mentioned three way linking still works but it is not held in high regard as it was in 2007 and prior.. when linking the anchor text and relevancy are very important

it still works for PR I lack the evidence for talking about serps, but PR definitely. Last PR Update a whole bunch of my sites that I started interlinking went up. They all had PR 2 from one PR 3 site. Quite nice actually, others went up PR 3 and 4. So I can ensure that it does work.

And three way link exchange is a strategic way of getting one way.

Someone care to elaborate more on this 3-way-link technique?

    It's sort of Site A (Owner X) links Site B (Owner Y), while Site C (Owner X) links Site B (Owner Y)?

    ChiliPalmer,

In general, you are right. Some link companies also offer membership such that if you post a member's link in your website, another random member will post a link for your website.

The fix may take a while, but remove the 4 way links, and do some normal promotion, articles directories, web 2.0, etc.

You should gradually start coming back up through the ranks.

It's a good sign they you are still in the SERP's.

    Cheers

    Tim
