How to start a site like stumleupon / digg / propeller etc

    All social bookmarking sites

1 . Please tell me what scripts are available ( open source or commercial )

    2. How much money is required to advertise initially and make them popular

    3. Any other ways to promote new social bookmarking sites

    4. How much space and b/w is required to start with .

    5. How to get started

    Any help will be great

Pligg.com is the best open source (and probably overall) script out there for a digg like site.

phpdug (http://www.kubelabs.com/phpdug/) is another open source one that is a bit more simple.

Pligg has more of a community available for support and updates and addons are more readily available.

Getting traffic to the site is not hard, the challenge is getting quality traffic. Most visitors will be spammers who just want to post links to their rx sites, etc.

You will need to get links to this website from high authority websites otherwise it will not be of any use. Digg and other commonly used social bookmarking softwares have really high authority for their categories.

it will be very difficult to attract a following considering the alternatives, you will also need a dedicated server at a minimum to handle the traffic loads along with spending every hour awake promoting and handling emails and problems that arise, not something i'd try alone
