Do you have any idea how important is now Google PageRank for search rankings? Is it still important to have high PR to get to the firs page in Google?
PR in no way helps the SERPS. PR is just a toolbar greeny thing to know about the importance of the site thru Google's eyes. More PR means you can earn good bucks when you place ads on your page and that's it. Do not mind PR. Just post quality content and build backlinks. PR will come automatically.
I am also completely aggred with the above post. PR shows the trust of the website from Google as well as Visitors point of view. It has nothing to do with SERP.It can't help you to increase SERP for your website.
Page nothing is one of the hundred things which google count for rankings... So concentrate on other things like Meta Tags, Meta Description etc... Pagerank is not responsible for SE rankings.
no bookmarking is not depends upon on the page rank..... page rank actually depends on the back links..... social bookmarking only increase your traffic..... and that most important.......
i would say it is import. important for the keyword your linking for. If you have 2 sites, one linking for the phrase (buy cheap drugs online) that have thousands of site properly linking for that phase and then u have the other site linking for the phrase (buy cheap drugs online from africa) which will have fewer site linking for that page if any. the second site will have a higher page rank than the other one. because of the key phrase they are linking for.
from what we know, PR doesnt help SERPS (although could change anytime) However, PR does help with link building and selling.
The PR of your site is unimportant regarding rank (this statement clarified below), however the PR of others linking to you equates to fewer inbound links required to gain rank.... provided they are relevant links. Ideally you will have inbound links from relevant pages that contain PR. Sites with higher PR are trusted more than sites with lower PR therefore a link from a higher PR source nets you more votes. That said, you are much better off with a relevant link than you are a high PR link. Bear in mind that PR DOES factor into your rank, but it is only 1 of 200 factors, Google states: "Relevancy is determined by over 200 factors, one of which is the PageRank for a given page." There are so many people who dismiss Page Rank immediately from the say so of other forums members. Page Rank does matter. People who say page rank doesn't matter are generally referring to the direct effect upon SERPS. There is however a bigger picture which is often not recognized, Page rank is important to gaining link exchanges with other top sites, money making via adverts and a high pr suggests you have quality inbound links. Quality inbound links are vital to SERPs are they not? Which site do you think would to top the ratings? a Pr 1 site or a Pr7 site all other things being equal? Google SERPS value links and so does Page Rank. The chances are that the two go hand in hand and a high pr can be nothing but beneficial. It is important that the links that compose a high PR are related to YOUR SUBJECT area for the site as this is valued highly by Google SERPS.
I agree that in the short term, PR doesn't mean anything...I did an experiment and ranked position 6 for a one word keyword for a couple of weeks and I had a new site with PR0. However, as time's progressed my PR0 site has been dropped down the list, replaced with Page Ranked sites. I think the number of quality backlinks, keyword relevance in url, combined with domain age means you'll be higher up the list in the long term.
Page Rank can not help your website to increase its SERP in Google. A higher PR for your website can only give you personal satisfaction that your website has gain some trust in Google.
Page rank is great if you are selling links, though not good for much else. Its just a rough indication ... not a holy grail.
Thak you all for useful replies But if I return to bookmarking... don't you think that bookmarking your site, especially in Google Bookmarks, may affect your SERPS and possibly also PR? I guess this are very important data about visitor experience with your site and I don't believe they are not taken into account.
Some would say PR is related to SERP but somehow I don't buy it. To me, what is important is the ranking position to get the traffic that converts.
PR is the 'dummys guide' to how much 'weight' google thinks the rest of the web gives to your site. As such it is VERY important. Because other things being equal, for 2 sites with the same content, google will rank the one with the more 'weight' (aka pagerank) higher. In fact, the lower site may not even show in the first few hundred pages. PR 'comes automatically' to the lucky few. Just like winning the lottery. The rest of us have to work for it. The web is full of great, well crafted interesting sites that get no traffic and that no one has ever heard of because... the owners think 'pagerank comes naturally'.
