Want to start a website, need some help

I want to start a website to match up against some of my ideas.

I have little to no experience in creation of a website so I looked into Website tonight at godaddy.

After reading about how it is important that you have 2-3 columns layout so you can include adsense, banners etc on the sides and top I am wondering if website tonight would be the best choice then?

    Any recommandations would be appreciated.

there are really good programs which has a user friendly interface, it's like using ms word to create a document. The question is how will be your site? Dynamic/Static?

It sounds like you need a nice wordpress set up, it's easy to manage and beginner friendly.

EDIT: STAY AWAY FROM WEBSITE TONIGHT. It's a total scam... trust me.

Just my two cents but do a self hosted Wordpress/Drupal/Joomla site over any "free" service like blogger or the like. Own your own stuff. You'll learn a ton setting it up, it's easy to do and you'll have complete control over your stuff! That GoDaddy Website Tonight software is super weak. Don't do it.

First decide what exactly you are planning to build? Are you planning to have a website where you can write blog or something different?

I can help - but need to know what exactly your goal is

It is better to take help of ready to use softwares like Joomla etc which help in better development. Or initially go for blogs rather than a full-fledged website.

    The cheap option.
Download abbys webserver it is free. Set it up on a pc with constant internet connection.
Play webmasters without the hassle of hosting companies, till you get some ideas, and you can experiment with anything you like.

I have a dedicated server but still use my home server for building stuff.
This website is currently running on an abyss server at my home. I will upload it to my linux server soon.

Since this is a domain name forum, I assume that you don't really know what is it since you're talking about websites. :p

Domain names are actually the (.com names for websites), and for any complete professional website, you'll need the following:
    - domain name (a plain simple name for your website; a domain name can be just a domain name without referencing to any website)
    - hosting space (space for all your files to be made online)

Your hosting space is where you upload all of your webpages, name your main page to be index.php/index.htm/index.html so it'll display directly when your domain name is typed.
And for good practices, you should have another folder (../images/) in your main directory for all your images. :)

Yeh, and webpages are the files which contains the webdesign stuff and contents. - a good one should conform to the valid xhtml/css standards. ;)

And you can also use stuff like drupal/joomla/wordpress for the contents like the other guy who mentioned about it above. :D
