I had a pr4 blog on which I was selling links.I was using text-link-ads,ask2link and digital point forums. But in January second week my pr dropped to 2.Although the traffic has remained consistent till now.I want to know if my site has indeed been penalized or not.If yes then what should I do to get my pr back? BTW I am still selling links because that is my only earning hope and I have got bored with my blog and want to start a new blog with the money I earned by selling links. Thanks in advance!! The blog is the first one in my signature.
Google don't like you 'selling links in order to manipulate PR' which is ironic, because that's what LOTS of advertising online is about. You may have been 'dobbed in it' by a competitor.
Your blog has not been penalized yet. As when google penalizes a blog it shows its PR NA. and also a penalized blog has no cahched i.e when you see in google's cache your blog it will show you no cache of blog. And also selling links from your blog is an crime in Google's eye.so they will penalize your blog in future. Your PR dropped because only you must have given so many links from your blog.
You're mistaking penalty with ban. What you just described is a ban when the site is kicked out of the index. Sites can receive penalties as well where they maintain their PR but show up consistently poorly in the index for all keywords including name. Simple drops in PR are probably due to the mixture of inbound and outbound links, especially if the inbound are of poor quality. If the algo has determined you're in a link exchange, it is very possible all links associated have been devalued.
Why are you not using Adsense for your blogs? That will help you make more money, on top of selling links. Your blog is not banned. PR adjusts itself every now and then to reflect changes in incoming and outgoing links. You should still see traffic coming from the serps.
Are you using nofollow attribute in selling links? Better sell links in the right way, also consider that Google algos are changing and there is always a change that a site will be affected.
