Since each Search engine is using different algorithms is the Search Engine Optimization different for each.

I know there are certain general standards, but has anybody figured out the true difference, or seo recipe depending on what you want more?

yes google, yahoo, msn and all other SEs are using different algorithms..

my site is on top with some good keywords on google but my site is not in 100 search results in yahoo....

so i think all these 3 SEs giants are using differing algorithms

But is there a clear difference between Google SEO and Yahoo SEO?

    Is the recipe different?

I don't know, but anyway I think you can have better results with google, Why? because google has a bigger popularity than the other one. For sure.

The reason I ask is because programs like WebCEO have one recipe for all the search engines. Recipe is just a fancy way for describing "tactics used".

Whereas I wonder if there is a Google Specific SEO program.

What I've noticed is that Google wants high quality related links. While Yahoo just wants quantity of links. Google probably has better methods of determining which links should count so you don't need as many to rank high in Google...if they are high quality.

Google has 70 to 80% of searches worldwide by Internet users. thats why SEOs tend to focus more on Google.
Many other search engines get their listings from Google so you will rank obviously similar in those as Google.

Yahoo tends to like you to be in their directory and they like you to have a lot of links (they'r enot a sstrict as Google in relevance) MSN tends to be somewhat similar to Google , yet more lenient . In modern practice its usually better to focus on Google and allow that work to be picked up by other search engines. Reason being = why would you alter your optmization or linking strategies to rank better in search engines that only get around 25% average of the search traffic?

    Of course

    McDonalds fries their burgers....

    Burger King grills their burgers....

Yahoo uses the meta keywords tag to spam filter so its very important to have per page meta data that matches the content of the page and vice versa....

Google applies a SERP weight to inURL as well, but, the keywords have to be less competitive for you to rank in top 5. Most inURLs for competitive keywordsare alreayd taken at this point anyway and are usually alreayd ranked unless they were spammed out. Sometimes large companies will buy up all the inURL keywords and just sit on them and over the years many have burned out a lot of keywords inURL by spamming the heck out of sites, trying to get to #1 SERPS.

That's one of the factors that started the odd name URL craze (example: Twitter, Google, Squidoo, etc) Ever notice all the strange web names? That's because if you pick a strange name that almost certainly has not ever been competed for in SERPS you will most likely rank not only #1 but also every SERP, and every page. The SEO dream is if you have a corporate level budget and you can create a strange name URL ..then with millions of dollars in promotion and a seeming 'grass roots' viral marketing.. you can dominate all keywords related to your site, and others will have an extremely hard time trying to compete for those once the SERPS are established.

Rather than compete for "blue widgets" ..give blue widgets a strange name like = "GoopyFoo" ..and do mass marketing so that everyone knows that 'GoopyFoo' is referring to widgets of all colors and types. Then your GoopyFoo site will have BlueGoopyFoos,RedGoopyFoos etc. Thats the SEO dream ride if you have the budget to launch it from the get-go that way. Never compete for a keyword again. :D

Yes the search engines are all a bit different. Personally, I don't worry about the small discrepancies between the search engines because I have found when you have a good site with lots of great content and you implement the right SEO techniques you should be able to rank well in all major search engines.

I have noticed that sometimes it takes new sites longer to show up in SERPs based on different factors. After I first launched one of my personal sites I noticed I was ranking well in Google and Yahoo, but not at all in MSN. Instead of worrying about MSN rankings, I just continued my SEO efforts as usual and eventually I was where I wanted to be.

The URL weighting has been diminished... as I noted above its easy enough to rank non keyword domains for top positions with proper anchor text links.

When you refer to names such as Twitter Digg etc they rank # 1 for no other reason than "must rank"

Must rank is what has occurred as Google strives to be the most relevant search engine.

To be the most relevant search engine requires that when a brand name is searched, the brand owners site "must rank" # 1

If Pepsi is not #1 for the keyword pepsi, then Google would not be the most relevant search engine.

For something like car themes which is not a brand, you can rank # 1 with the URL dogreviews.com if you do the SEO correctly....

with what ever i have experienced ...Msn ranks the new websites at the top for some time and then slowly you can see the fall in positions

Wrt Google its tough to get top results immediately ...I guess google believes in Slow and steady wins the race ( just kidding) , BUt once we attain postions in Google they tend to stay for longer time ,

Wrt Yahoo , they are unpredictable

Google loves slow....that is known as building trust....recommendations have always taken time to build,,,,,

Neiman Marcus was not an overnight success but rather after years of top quality work earned peoples recommendation.

Google is in no hurry to give a new site it has little to no information on.... a top recommendation....

Each search engine has unique algorithm; its hard to determine the exact algorithm of each search engine; but, focus on Google and Yahoo SEO.
