How do you guys keep track of statistics for your sites?

I was just curious how you guys keep track of all of the statistics of your sites, such as your uniques and visit and all that stuff

I don't know anything about it, so I don't know if there are any programs that do this or if it is done online, I just bought my first domain and hosting so I was just curious on how to keep track of it all.

    Thanks in advance

I personally use google analytics but you may also use cpanel from your webhost if they provide you with that. I think people will use one or the other, probably the first.

I also use google analytics, and some other sites I use statcounter.com for statistic. Before you launch any website, this MUST be done. As a webmaster whether you're experienced or not, you need to know where your traffic are coming from, etc.

When you say this MUST be done, are you reffering to me getting statcounter?

I always like to know stats and I strongly believe in statistics.

Awstates given by your webhost is one of the best thing you can use. It gives much accurate result rather than any other tracker. Use that and you can know everything you want to.. :)

I really think awstats is the best. the style is good, everything is organized well. Other wise use google analytics, also pretty good i hear, I'm testing it right now.

    Thank goodness!

I have said for years that my cpanel includes statistics that, analyzed properly (because it includes referrers, etc.) can be used for ad-tracking. I have been laughed at over this for years. "Oh, no, you have to get Ad-Tracker" (BTW, Does Ad-tracker have an affiliate program?-- because, the way people acted, you'd think it does! LOL!)

Anyway, I quite agree that most cpanels have some analytics... and, if you're advertising any kind of affliate without it going through your site... that's a mistake. Everything should go through your site.

    Cheers!

    Is awstats onsite or offsite?

That is, is it a program you can add to your own website? Or does it work from a remote site?

Thanks for all the advice guys, I will probably use a cpanel because my host provides me with that, and doing it directly from my site would probably be most acurate.

    Thanks again

I checked it out and it is up for a free download so I think it goes directly on your site.

I'll go for google analytics, too. the info can be overwhelming at first, but there are videos on [youtube-->>google analytics] that teach you how to use what's really important. check it out.

Google analytics, urchin in the control panel from my hosting company, as well as quantcast. All work well and offer different things.
