Don't get me wrong, I like Obama
But only 2 weeks into his Presidency and Obama is saying he "screwed up" http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory?id=6800192
-abt 3 of his top appointees having tax problems
-Geihner escaping the outrage and possibly becoming a tainted Treasury secretary
-his 800B stimulus program under fire for not really creating jobs (eg. quite a lot spent in infrastructure projects which will take time to create employment)

Was he overeager to please the public that he quickly apologized? I mean 4 years is 200 weeks so does that mean Obama will apologize and take blame every 2 weeks so 100 screw ups in 4 yrs...
So is all the hype and overrating expectations of Obama the Messiah starting to fall off? Is he really more style than substance?:D

I think it's refreshing to have a leader who admits mistakes. Maybe he'll actually learn from them.

Most of these appointments are political payoffs, I hope he realizes now that these people need to be stuck at desk instead of running the show.

I'm waiting to see Rahm Emmanuel get the ax. He's an unstable and biased individual who will be a source of embarrassment and hawkish policy as long as his voice carries weight.

I agree with amanamission, it is really nice to hear a politican admit that they made a mistake. Much better to have them admit it now and learn from it, than to spend the next 6 or 7 years trying to convince people it wasn't a mistake.

The guy said he screwed up and it makes me like him more.

    Normal politicians don't do that.

People did vote for and get change... the guy made one bad judgement on someone he hired... I am sure every person that runs a business has hired someone they regretted hiring at some point.

And as for people being appointed as politcal payoffs... yeah... thats how politics work... at least Obama is appointing people that are qualified to do the job, but that is how politics works... you need friends to make it as far as he did and there is nothing wrong with giving your friends, ie the people you trust, jobs so long as they are qualified for the job.

The change people wanted was someone who was honest... and based on Obama admitting he screwed up only 2 weeks into it, I would say that proves we have change.

Well, politics is practical...if he doesn't give important posts to his supporters, he won't have them later. Surely you don't think he won the nomination without having to pay the piper?

I don't really blame Obama for this...he made commitments with his political life on the line. What would any of us do?

Principles have their place, but that place is the sidelines if you play the game of politics without taking care of your friends.

I don't have problem with Obama apologizing... just that he seems to apologize so easily and quickly that it degrades value of his apology. I mean if he apologizes every time any of his people down the line makes mistakes, he will be busy everyday just apologizing lol
Hope he does not do it every 2 weeks cos that cheapens the apology and it will be like the Boy who cried wolf- Cried wolf so many times other people do not take him seriously and his credibility will take a big hit:D

I found it to be refreshingly different from Bush who spent 8 years primarily ignoring the fact that he had made mistakes. He pointedly refused to acknowledge any mistakes for the first several years. Even as he privately saw problems, Bush refused to take actions on them for a long time, let alone make admissions of mistakes.

It took him anywhere from six months to 2 and 1/2 years to get rid of Rumsfeld from the time it first came up and was creating serious problems with policy, actual enactment of programs, and creating problems in his own cabinet.

Obama's immediate admission is entirely refreshing.

And it is a problem, though not only Obama's. Its astonishing to see three heavyweights with tax problems and non payment issues--who only addressed this issue when they went up for nomination in Obama's cabinet and faced scrutiny. How many of these people in Washington are doing the same thing? Maybe that is where the government debt has gone!!!!!!

Obama is screwing up. The fact that he admits it makes me feel marginally better. Marginally. I didn't vote for him to have all the usual democratic programs pushed through on the guise that it's part of a stimulus program. I voted for pragmatism. I'm starting to feel like I was bullshitted.

Obama has discovered that there are few honest politicians left in Washington. He has made them be accountable, and resign, and then took the blame. And you see this as negative behavior?

I see as negative behavior the fact that it was going to be a "new way" in Washington and then he drummed out 5 of the old dogs like Dashle to be in his admin.

Apologizing is is fine. Appointing the old guard was the only problem.

Actually Obama taking responsibility for his mistakes is just another way he can differentiate himself from the former President (he who shall not be named.)

Plus these "screw ups" are... well... nothing. They are tiny blips on the radar that are only getting coverage because of the insane 24/7 news environment we live in.

Politicians obviously don't pay taxes so if Obama wants experienced politicians he'll need to appoint people who don't pay taxes. These scandals are all junior-league corruption, even the right-wing media dares not mention who funds these political careers and campaigns or how they're affected by the legislation that puts us into debt.

Don't pay much attention to these sideshows, they're trying to distract us from the coming "bad bank" proposal that could cost us another $4 trillion in handouts to the most corrupt corporations of all.
