It usually occurs before PR updates. Well, Google loves to dance.. It only means that they are tweaking their algorithms.

How can it be? Google's PR was updated on 31 Dec 2008. How can it update again and that too so frequently. As much as i know, Google's PR update is updated after every 3 months and i have not studied it anywhere but experienced it.

Well, it is just based on my experienced. I had also experienced that with one of my clients. They dominate for about 10 keywords for almost 4 months with a minimal changes offcourse. But I was alarmed when it drops up to 100+. I did what you are doing right now and eventually experience google updates after a week or so. It happened to me 3x with the same client.. But now it still rank high.. :)

    some reasons are:
It's just normal fluctuation on Google
    Google data center problem?
    Google dance?
    Sandboxed?

So if you think you haven't done anything rude to get your site banned, Relax, try again to check for your keyword rank after an hour or 2... It will come back so don't worry, but!, don't let your guard down continue doing your task and let Google handle the rest...

I agree with the two points i.e. Google data center problem and Google dance but not Sandbox effect. As much as i know Sandboxed website does not have such frequent fluctuations. Correct me if i am wrong

Actually if your website is been sandboxed, you won't see your websites listed in SERPs.

Agree...but the problem i have stated is slightly different. I am continuously seeing my website at the particular rank and then it vanishes away after few hours. And this is happening since morning

I wouldn't worry about any particular rankings. Just keep consistantly building links. This is the norm and ALL sites are different. Especially new sites have a tendancy to disappear as Google is working at eveluating the site to it jumps in and out of it's index at different positions. They always come back, unless it picks up any wrong doings with a particular site.

When a lot of people start to see their rankings fluctuate it is a sign of a possible algo change or PR update.
