From 300 Uniques Daily to Zero Daily

Discussion in 'Traffic Analysis' started by Bohol, Jan 12, 2009.

Where have I gone wrong? I have a blog site that used to get 300 unique visitors every day, 99% of which is courtesy of Google. For the past few days, the traffic dives to record-breaking low. It's all zero. Lucky if I'd get 10 visitors.

Is this what you call Google penalty?

There must be a way (backup plan) in which we have to end our too much dependence on Google traffic.

hmm.. is your blog still listed in google? Maybe the removal of your site from google is the reason why your site lost all it's visitors..

Did you update your template recently? It's possible that you didn't re-add your web stats code.

Sounds like your stats counter has stopped working properly?
I'll visit your site if you want. :)

most likely issue is the tracking code has disappeared from your site - especially for it to drop to 0 overnight.

could be a Google penalty but if you were seeing traffic from other sources that's dissappeared too then more likely to be the code.

If the meta tag verifier from Google's webmaster tools was removed, would it matter?

That will only affect your access to WMT if it requires revalidation. It will not affect your search listings. If you don't have validation with WMT, you should revalidate and check for any errors messages in the WMT console.

The site had been validated more than a year ago. The meta tag verifier was removed when I changed template.

I'd re-validate and check WebMasterTools just in case - sorry I hadn't seen that you are still seeing a small number of visitors in your above post.

Hi Zhoog, this has not been solved. But today I saw a ray of hope. 128 unique visitors. Maybe the traffic will start coming back. Hopefully.

Must have been a small Google update then.. I still find it weird how they sometimes remove you from their search results and then put you back again a day later.

It's really confusing. After recovering half of the lost traffic, yesterday was a dismal day - traffic was back to zero. Google remains a mystery. Perhaps we should no longer depend so much on Google. Let's find alternatives.

Tough to diagnose properly without a URL.

Otherwise, it's like throwing darts in the dark :)

do you know the keywords used by your visitors? if you have record, check your web rank for that keyword(s) in google serp from here:
