Google invited me, finally, to be a beta tester for the gmail-hosted-email for my domain. EXCITED. i'll let you guys know how it goes.
You have to apply somewhere. I applied ages ago but I guess they either take ages or I didn't get accepted. C'grats though! Do you get to send out invites a la gmail?
Is there an account limit for this service? i.e. how many accounts can one create per domain? Also, do I have to compromise on my mail server?
When I applied I only asked them for 5 email accounts, but they gave me 25. Which I guess is the minimum. A friend of mine applied and asked for 100 and got 250. I don't have gmail invitations there, but that's just fine, cause my other emails have gmail invites that are collecting dust. They replied really quickly. I applied last friday, and this morning there was an email from google in my inbox.
How does this work??? Can you make any money of it? Please give us more details about this program and which type of websites qualify for this program. Thanks
You don't make any money with it...(Though Google does place THEIR ads in it, like normal gmail [probably how they pay for it])It just means that you can check your @domain.tld in a gmail format, high quality spam filter, conversation marking...all the sexy stuff on top of it. As for which qualify...Google hasn't really specified, I don't think they care, so long as it meets quality guidelines? (That last part is a guess).
I got a reply today - thanks for this thread Gmail came and I took the free email service off my site could not really see the value when Gmail was out there... now my domain will use Gmail
interesting, very interesting. I worried initially about the hosted inbox sizes but it seems that google host it for you, which is very nice. Great find, thanks for sharing.
