Which is the best CMS for creating a social network ?

If you want something like Myspace / Facebook / & YouTube all wrapped in one software, go with Boonex Dolphin www.boonex.com/products/dolphin/

If you want a robust cms with thousands of mods that can be added or subtracted, go with Joomla www.joomla.org

I am a joomla user for my personal site, however I have built sites using Boonex Dolphin as well. While Joomnla suites all my needs & has plenty of options for building the community I want. Boonex Dolphin comes with everything intact out of the box & you don't have to go hunting for mod's & messing with extended installs.

I agree strongly with the Joomla/Drupal comparison.
The sheer number of files in Joomla is prohibitive for some, and Drupal is admirable in the features it offers!

The determining factors are ease of installation for your abilities, and your intended audience.
Not everyone is going to feel a need for every module.
Many will be rendered useless.....keep that in mind.

I've been using Boonex Dolphin for a while now and it gets better with each release. I think it's a great framework that can be expanded if you have some PHP experience. It has a lot of features some of which I rarely use for my own sites.

 

I consider Dzoic Handshakes to be the best script for social networking. You should consider this instead of a hack for a CMS. Handshakes is built from ground up to be a social network, hence it is very fast and nicely optimized. See the link in my sig for Dzoic Handshakes.

I am not promoting anything, I just provide links to consider and there is nothing to trust or not trust. And the fact that ilook spends so much time and efforts marking all posts about the software with shrills and red color tells about the fact that he is paid well for that. The problem is he is not professional flooder and even can not provide any bug lists, which he states are present in the script.
