I think it's something to do with how everybody develops the same way until a certain point. Nipples are made during that gender limbo stage before Y chromosome starts doing it's thing. For uses of men's nipples? Well, it's a sensitive zone that can give you pleasure when a partner plays with them. And apparently some men can lactate with enough stimulation over a long enough period of time. Though I've not really seen any real evidence for that...
