Is there any software to edit a static site without going through a developer?

Just wondering if anyone knows of any apps or software that will allow clients to edit their existing static websites without getting their developer to manually make the changes?

    Thanks, Fleur

I would like to know too. Wanted to create a website from scratch. Some recommends Dreamweaver, but is there any free, but powerful and good tool to use

I suggest Textpad, but if you need a WYSIWYG, you can use Frontpage, XSitePro.

If you need to just change simple things, all you need is Notepad. Get a free FTP client such as SmartFTP, connect to your FTP server, download the corresponding page (i.e, index.* is your main page, contact.*, might be your contact page), then open the file with Notepad, and do a search for the text you want to change.

Make the changes, reupload the file to your FTP server overwriting the original.

    Done!

The method given by "EVISERATE" is easy and simple for begineers but be careful with HTML codes, if you disturb it while editing then you will mess the whole design/layout.

If you want to regularly update the contents of your website including text, images and links then i would recommend that you go for WORD PRESS. Initially you will have to bear a cost of around $150 to $200, to get your theme designed and coded but at the end, update and maintenance is easy and you also don't need any special software, you can also update your site if you are on the move, you just need Internet access and web browser.

xSitePro is great for beginners and creates very impressive sites. If you want a copy for cheap, PM me and I can transfer the license to your name. I have a spare copy that I accidentally bought last August.

    $50 first come first served.

    Cheers.

The question was about his CLIENTS editing their OWN sites, NOT about the developer editing client sites for them. The developer's CLIENTS would generally have NO knowledge of HTML, etc therefore making ANYTHING other than a WYSIWYG non-feasible. If those CLIENTS had knowledge of HTML, they probably would not have a developer doing it for them.

Course you can, if signed up to a host you may find an online editor, or if not then you can simply download the files make the changes and re-upload them via host or FTP client.

Xsitepro is a simple yet powerful software for anyone with little to know HTML experience.

It comes loaded with plenty of pre-designed templates for all your website needs. Plus there are lots of templates available online.

I started using Xsitepro when it first came out and haven't built site after site for my own business and for other successful online marketers.

    Xsitepro gets my vote!

    Good luck with your business.
