London comes to a standstill because of snow!

London was hit by snow Sunday night / Monday morning and the city just stopped!

There were no buses, Trains and tubes were at the bare minimum with many stations closed and the ones that were open were so overcrowded people could not get in.

    Schools all closed.

Royal Mail sent its employees home.
People were warned not to drive to work, but without London Transport what choice did they have?
So stay at home they did! Except me and 6 others! I got to work on time and was the first person in, 45 minutes later I wondered if anyone else would turn up, finally someone did, he told me he walked for 1 hour 40 mins to get in!
out of the usual 100+ that work in my firm only 7 of us made it!

Are you in London? did you get to work? whats your view?
I can't believe that such a big city was not prepard for some snow! how silly is that, it's not like they didn't know it was coming!

And there is more on its way!

At least I got to come home early (11am) as there was nothing to do, had a snowball fight when I got back with friends and helped build snowmen with all the locals who couldn't get to work or school.

Thank you for the update, tommorow a.k.a already today 3rd Feb, all colleges and Universities have been declared closed. I see it on all the school websites i have visited. University students should visit their websites and also check their emails.

Well the snow is awsome.. i dunno why people take it as miserable .. :D

    I agree,
It's not like we get it very often anymore so when we do get a decent amount of snow its great to have some fun and a great opportunity to get some brilliant photo's, I was out Sunday night when it started taking pictures and again on my way to work Monday morning.

But yes everyone should check their schools / Colleges / Uni's before hand on Tuesday morning as well as checking the tfl site for reports on transport closures to avoid getting stuck somewhere.

TFL reported that all the trains except DLR where shut down. This was like the first time so far. I hope the government panics and gives more public holidays.. :D

    Vacations on my way.!!

In my case its a bit worse to do so actually. We already have less days to study for our AS level, and next they start shutting down college.

The worse thing is that near my college, there has been a gas leakage, all the buses have been diverted for a week. (TFL REPORTS)..

Now i wonder which way would i reach my college.. And why did someone had to fart so hard..!

Perhaps they were saving it up for a snowy day? ;)

Maybe you will have to leave home a little earlier to make up for the diversion?
    Or...
Stay at home and then work double hard next week to catch up?
at least with option 2 you get a week to enjoy yourself and have a rest.
    :)

Global warming (caused by variations in solar output) was nice while it lasted.

I think it's actually pretty cool that London people got a snow day! We get them ALL the time here in Canada where I live, so I think its only fair that they get their share of fun days off :)

Obviously this has been caused by the decrease in salinity in the ocean, thereby halting the flow of the Gulf Stream. I guess we can change the topic to an "end-of-the-world" thread now....

It was nice and unusual for London to be like this, though this morning on my trip into work I noticed so many snowmen I thought they were over taking the city! lol

I noticed a really cool one that someone made with The Simpsons spikey head I will grab my camera and go still if it still there later before it melts.
