I receive this email: Sent: Tuesday, June 27, 2006 11:02 PM Subject: Are you fucking stupid? The submission rules clearly state that sub domains and deep links attract a fee of $4.99 Did you really think your poor submission wouldn't be noticed? Idiot! _________ To which this is my reply as who ever has been brave enough to send this has not provided a way to reply, so when the directory owner returns to the board you can reply here or pm me or something. My reply to the abusive email that you sent to me is below: Dear Sir/Madam 1. Your clearly quite brave. 2. Your not showing much professionalism here. 3. I dont even know who you are, would you be kind enough to provide further deatails of who you are and which directory your from. 4. I must warn that if your brave enough to expose yourself i will be providing others with your professional way of responding to matters. 5. Just to set the record straight, no im not fucking stupid as the email subject asks me and no im not an idiot either as you so agressively suggest. 6. Since im on a roll now and the fact that you have handled your business so agressively and non professional, may i suggest you take a step back, breath for a moment and take in what you have just done, your going about things completely the wrong way, and if i am stupid as you suggest and an idiot why take it upon yourself to waste your time to tell me, surely il be too daft to take it on board. Kind Regards John
BobL, i can see no email address at all, it seems the individual wants to remain faceless, i can provide a phone number to the real directory owner as i prefer to talk in person to settle matters, the only reason i post what i have here is through having no other option to gain contact with the owner. SVZ, thanks for correcting me, clearly this is going to be a difficult day for me with people playing silly buggers and adding to the fun, cheers il take your correction on board.
What do you mean there's no email? Did you check the header? It's always best to run a spell check, especially if it's an angry letter
Can I steal that format to use for my own directory I try to have a slightly different declined message but I always like directness like the original email (even if I don't have the balls to make it standard)
Yes, and there is no way to reply to it that i can see, im not actually angry, the person who sent me the email in angry. Quite disappointing actually, i see people on the forums use terrible spelling, but i know there is no need to correct them as i understand what they mean. Im glad that im entertaining you today SVZ, i guess it is naive of me to suggest that the owner may return here and want to deal with things in an adult way. They do say not to Air your dirty linen in public. Big mistake on my behalf.
I would love to deal with some of these people by phone or in person, i wish people would not hide behind the internet, as i can see this thread becoming a joke i will take advantage of trying to give some advice before it gets out of hand. Regardless of the type of site that any webmaster is running, i can see no benefit in the long run for anyone handling situations like i have experienced. If your running a directory for fun or something, then go ahead and treat it like a joke, but if anyone is serious about their business, then surely they must realise that you do not go about things by using abuse. I am shocked at the gutter like attitude to business from some people, this is the real world, if its fun and games for some people then fair enough but when your dealing with me please stop and think for a moment before adding stupid comments, you are only making yourself look silly.
Do you seriously think that the person that wrote that email is going to respond "like an adult" in a public forum? If you want this to be "serious", file a report of abuse with their host
Good advice, and your correct with that, i fully agree, they say you learn something everyday, and i feel that i have this morning. Thanks, il move on now.
Can I present another side to this and why a few people made a joke about it. Many of us own directories, some are put up for SEO reasons, others put them up as a resource (I have been trying to be in the latter) No matter how many guidelines you put up, you still get people who submit incomplete listings, etc. So many in fact that it can really get frustrating. Although I don't agree with the way the person emailed, there is that little part of me that wishes I could send emails like that to the people who pay no attention to the guidelines and waste my time over and over again. I'm not saying you are one of those people but you can see the frustration that can set in when you go out of your way to differentiate your site and people just disregard those guidelines.
What are you ranting about ??? Obviously it was your mistake buddy ! Oh and here comes the red rep from me Useless thread !!!
Just out of curiousity and kind of on topic: Why not? What if the subdomain is forums.anything.com or blog.anything.com Wouldn't that benefit your directory to list it?
I have around 20 web directories, and its really frustating when i see 20% of links are incomplete with no Description or title and sometimes these people send links in such a way that my whole dir is broken Now i cant do anything in my directory as the page here Ends
