I'm trying to launch my own Social Networking Site soon but i have some questions Please. Questions 1 how much does it cost a month to run a site like myspace/friendster/facebook ? 2 what kind of servers do i need? 3 do i need to hire a bunch of moderators programmers and staffs to successfully run my site? I really need this questions answered thanx
1) The cost would depend mostly on how many people are\would use it domains are like $10 a year or something and a non dedi server, if there wasnt going to be that many people using it is around $8 a month. If it really took of then you would need something like a dedicated server which cost a lot more =P 2) See above, depends 3) If you can program it yourself, or use some premade template then you wouldnt need programmers and if there werent that many people using it, you could probably moderate it yourself. With moderators you may be able to get them for free if they where already using the site, people tend to like power =P Just my thoughts Dox

Where from i get the script ... I have heard some bad comments about it ... the looks are great but Aren't there any scripts like myspace / facebook .. Like for forums there are scripts like vBulletin / IPB which are very great and also there are templates for the same Anyways aren't there any user friendly for social networking sites
Social Networks are dear to run , yes. But they will not cost you millions a month. You should probably get a dedicated server or buy your own server, they're not too dear. You can get a domain for about $10 a year if you look around. You will need a good few staff and you should hire programmers. Unless you are doing a niche Social Network, a good person to advertise for is SnorgTees and other funny T-shirt sites as they are very popular. Once you get enough members you should start making good money, but it will take a while before you make your money back. Good luck with your site anyway. Also, if you are doing a premium mebership, it is always a good idea to offer incentives like a draw every month for free merchandise for your site made with Cafepres or Spreadsirt or something from t-shirt shops
Hi their, I had a Ning adult site which was quite successfull for 6 months with 800 members till they closed adult sites! So I had a look at Social Go but now their stopping adult sites and moving them over to anther company which is then going to charge. So the only alternate was to create my own on my own private server. I've gone down the Boonex/ Dolphin road basically as it was free. BUT theirs a lot of usefull mods which are chargeable. But I still think you can get a good site set up quite cheaply. I'm not a brain surgeon but I had very little problems setting it up and my hosting company, http://www.jaguarpc.com/ where very helpfull! Its still in its early stages and free to members or at least till I can get a good enough amount joined. You might consider checking out hiring a freelancer to do your work for you. Check out custom designed ones are much sexier than pre-made ones www.asiancyte.com www.virb.com www.trig.com Something like that stands out way more than the pre-made scripts. The reason is if someone goes on a site and it looks like a duplicate site, then it would turn them off. I would invest the money in creating your own script and I think that is the only way you're going to get your network to take off.
