Will Email marketing get your site banned from Search Engines?

We're considering E-mail marketing (within the CAN-SPAM law of course) trying to generate more business, if we're currently ranked in the Search Engines (Google, Yahoo, etc). Will the Search Engines (like Google) ban you from the their rankings because you're "spamming", eventhough you're still within the law?

It only takes one person to report you site as "spam"

If the the people your emailing are all opt-in then you will not be ban from the search engine. Even if they were not, you would not be ban from search engine by emailing people.

Email marketing is a legal and legitimate way to do business, but has received a "black eye" due to the number of marketers abusing it with spam emails. You shouldn't have anything to worry about, provided you play by the rules. ;)

I have never heard this RIDICULOUS idea. Email marketing is a legitimate and profitable way to build a relationship and brand recognition with opt-in subscribers

It's not at all related to SERPs

actually that's a very good point

you should check the email send rate policy of your host if you're hosting your own email application

thats exactly why it makes perfect sense to follow proper permission guidelines, and offer content that people actually want

let the spam filters handle the rest

    Thanks for the inputs...

Any recommendation on a company that can provide the e-mail marketing service along with Opt-In email list?

Back during the dot com gold rush I worked for an advertising agency that did a lot of e-mail marketing and banner placements. When you are considering a company to do your e-mail blast make sure to read their privacy and opt-in policies to protect yourself. Don't rely on them simply saying "everyone on our list has opted-in"-make sure you see for yourself how it was done.

Here are a few companies that use "whitehat" opt-in practices, and have been endorsed by CAUCE-the coalition against unsolicited commerical e-mail: http://www.cauce.org/resources/opt-in

    Hope this helps :)

You may also want to check out AWeber (http://www.aweber.com/) - they're a pretty reputable company, and a lot of Internet marketers use their service.

It doesn't look like they have the email list. Only email service.

I'm not an expert on this, but I think you may find it difficult to buy into an opt-in list, and if you are able to, it will most likely be with a "black hat" company. Generally speaking, people opt-in to distribution lists for specific products, services, or information that they're interested in knowing more about. Selling their contact information to a third party is usually not part of the agreement. ;)
