Participating online discussion forums drive lots of traffic to my website.

I am spending daily 2 hour for forum posting.

Can you describe your experience in forum posting?

Not much (2%-5%). I wouldn't want to rely on forums for my traffic, as I wouldn't want to spend this much time posting.
Most are from links on some reputable sites and search engines.
70% is returning visitors (bookmarks I guess)
Some comes from emails (maybe 1%). I guess some people email some of my stuff around.

    Wow 100%-75% = 15%...

On another note, forum posting isn't valuable if your site isn't about the same topic. You should also have written good content in order to presell your website (the better what you wrote is, the higher your chances the reader will be interested by your stuff).

A question for those getting untargeted traffic from forum posts: Are you posting on forums in your niche or only on SEO forums?

I know it's convenient (and fun) to spend hours posting on your favorite forums, but most of the time they're not related to the subject of your site.

For example, if you have a gardening site, find some good gardening forums and answer the posters' questions. Your sig should tell them what else they can find on your site (10 best tomato growing tips, or something like that).

Posting a gardening link on a marketing forum is going to get curious webmasters clicking through, but probably not else.

Yes, you need to post on niche forums. There are some things though that get attention anywhere (such as porn for example or arcades). But if you are looking for targeted traffic in the tomato growth field, you better go garden forums and tomato forums (if that exists). Any forum that relate to your niche will be good.

That's why your niche must REALLY be something you like cause if you can't post more than twice daily (I'm not talking about restrictions because of others), it might be because you don't like it enough. I have one of my blog which is about science and it's been a while since I've posted there because of lost of interest. I haven't posted 1 article this month and yet, my traffic is bigger than last month by a thousand.

Almost all traffic from forum posting...just make sure you're posting in forums that are related to web content; visitors are then almost 'pre-qualified' upon arrival. Works especially well with tightly focussed subject matter.

I would agree. Posting in forums has definitely increased my traffic, but it's important to keep in mind that you want to 'target' forums that are geared toward your site's content. Also...never spam the forums and keep your posts on the topic at hand. :)
