Hi, At times my clients gives me a task that suddenly takes too long because of long downloads... compiling, etc. But this time this sql import is taking almost 7 hours already for a 1g++ database. How do you charge your clients like this? Directly 7 hours worth? or do you feel the need to give a discount to the client since it's really a 'waiting' work now instead of real work?
If it's costing you time then you should charge. Besides you could be something more productive. But if you don't feel good charging for something like that and it's not hurting you personally(besides bandwidth etc) then just lower the charge. I would say charge them. 7 hours is a lot of time but unless it's holding you up no need to get riled.
hmm yes, that's what I was thinking.. It's not really much of a bother since all the cpu work is done in rdp. And during that 7 hours time I've been doing other work.. so yeah, maybe I'll deduct the price to 30-50%
Good idea The cpu doesn't charge too much I feel better to when I'm charging for actual work. Also lowers the chance of your clients feeling like they've been over billed.
That decides it then! thanks for your input! But if all the cpu work or bandwidth comes from me then I'll have to charge full. I'll make that into a policy now
