High PR submissions

I am suddenly getting submissions from high PR sites. A question; why would big name PR 7 and 8 sites have any need to be listed in my little directory. PR 6 I can understand but in the last 2 days I have HAD 3 7's and 2 8's.

    Is this normal?

Have they submitted main domain or sub-domain? Also -is your directory paid or FREE?
It is quite normal for bigger sites to hire SEO firms - and most SEOs consider directories as one of several sources of backlinks.:)

Free and top level. Just seems funny cause they already 'have it made' -- i.e. Dell.com

It means - those big companies are targeting some other terms.
All big firms/companies have in-house SEO specialists or hire big SEO firms. (Otherwise who can hire Rand Fishkin for $1000/hr consultation FEE?).

As told earlier, directories are one of many sources of backlinks that SEOs use to get that extra backlink.

I got a lot of submissions on my paid directories from big companies. Mostly for subpages.

Large companies always submit. There was talk in 2007 I think that sites like disneyland etc were being submitted around. Same goes for British Airways and others.

I know many PR5/6 sites that submit their homepage (as well as internal pages) to directories regularly.

It might also be a directory list owner trying to see if you actually approve submissions to your list. I use a client's PR5 (superb) site to find if the directory is dead (or just being naughty by approving only paid links) :)

Thanks for the replies. While my brain cells are in a state of confusion over this I will just look at it as a fact that everyone does illogical things.

The big company pay the directory submission companies for submitting on your directories,
Pls don't focus on the pr anymore.

I don't bow to the PR god but it is one of the ways to evaluate sites.
