Something strange happening with search titles

    Hi, just something I've been seeing in the past few days after I decided to change my forum title for a better place in the Google search results. If I remember correctly, I've had 3 different titles for my homepage in total and when I look at the search results, the title of my forum is the very first title I had a while back and it keeps changing between the different titles I've ever had.

    Also, for different search terms, the forum has different titles coming up. I know it takes a day if even that for the title change to show up in Google because I saw the result with my own eyes, but its not staying the same and because of this we seem to be jumping between pages every day.

    Can anyone explain this?

    Sorry, I can't. But I do have a question -- how do you change your title?

    Because my website is coming up as FutureClicks.net, which is fine, but the subtitle isn't at all what it should be.

    It is likely to happen for a few days until all the data centers are updated with the latest data. At present some datacenters might have your old title and some others your new title.

    I thought it would be something like that, but something strange I've noticed was that the old title I had which didnt have the search keyword in it, was actually the highest the page had ever been in the results, while the others were a few places below, guess I should just wait and see how they level out before playing with the title again. Does anybody know how much having the search keyword in your title affects search positions?

    You put whatever you want the page title to be inside <title> </title> tags and then shove that into the page head.

    Keywords in your page title is extremely important. Besides quality backlinks it is one of the most important ranking factors.

    You should also submit a new sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools. Perhaps an the title in an old sitemap is sometimes being displayed.

    If you have dmoz or Yahoo directory listings there are meta tags to prevent search engines from sometimes using that data for your title.

    Really you'll probably just have to be patient and wait for your title to properly update across all the data centers. I wouldn't recommend changing the title too much as that looks spammy.

    Well I meant the subtitle. Like when you search "FutureClicks" my site comes up with an irrelevant subtitle. :confused:;;

    But thank you <3
