Is this a scam?

I'm advertising using a list of keywords that have 0 competition. No other advertisers are using these words. These words get traffic and good click through rate some near 100%

Everday I notice Google has been trying to make me bid more since they say my min bid is too low, now they want me to spend over a dollar per click on keywords only I'm using with 0 competition.

I think this is a scam, they know I need these keywords and I'm getting good clicks and they seem to be capitalizing off of this buy making me pay more money for these clicks.

When I asked them about it they sent me a vague email about quality score. Which makes no sense. These people are going to lose allot of money, I have a healthy budget but I'm going to take my money elsewhere.

Do you know that you have high relevancy between your keywords, ad text, landing pages and things like that?

Im not questioning/challenging you in anyway :) just asking as i wonder if that could come into why they may do that even when theres little to no competition.

Out of curiosity, what is your quality score?

I had no idea but found that Google don't just charge you based on other peoples bids but also on the relevancy of those keywords you are bidding on in relation to your site.

This is the text book reason why I do not use adwords. With no competition for the keywords, it seems Google is trying to Punk you.

Even though I don't like Adwords, it seems to be working for you. I would try and talk to a real person (at Google) to see what is going on, or maybe even hire someone that knows the service well to help you maximize your campaign.

Bottom line is, if it's making you money, don't let my (or anyone elses) opinion steer you away. Learn more about increasing your quality score and see if that makes a difference.

There is also Yahoo search marketing.

You might be trying to bid on a keyword that Google doesn't like.

    Check this: http://adwords.google.com/support/bin/static.py?page=guidelines.cs&topic=9271&subtopic=9279

I would contact google, maybe there is a problem with their system. If there is no competition the price should not be a dollar a click.

I think you should check on the keywords again. Google is always not accurate in updating their keyword data. The keywords that you selected might have some competition by now. So, try to check on keyword competition back again.

The problem isn't with Google the problem is most likely with how you've organized your Campaigns and Ad Groups. Check your quality score. If your quality score is "ok" or "good" then contact Google.

and even if it says, that you have to bid one dollar for clicks..it doesnt mean you have to upgrade it to get clicks, you can still leave it, at your current click cost and still get impressions

    I Agree:

The problem isn't with Google the problem is most likely with how you've organized your Campaigns and Ad Groups. Check your quality score. If your quality score is "ok" or "good" then contact Google.

Now I am interested in the quality score of those keywords, cause there lies the problem.

So what - it's as simple as putting more keywords on your ad's landing page?

    Wow.

You do realize that your CPC is not only controlled by competition. Right?

Your CPC is getting higher each day because your Quality Score is getting lower each day. Google is not scamming you, they are just telling you that you did a crappy job putting up the campaign.

I really wish I could fully know the mind of Google. Things like this make me wish for more insight.
