How would we go about finding what we are looking for if there was no search engines?

If there were no search engines, it would be so tough to search for our desired information. How tough it would be we can’t imagine now. Offline advertisements of websites would increase dramatically. Only few sites would dominate the internet. Internet necessities like domain, hosting, site design etc. would be very expensive. General people would lose interest to develop websites. By the way, I’m so happy with the blessing of modern science "search engine".

Yes and in those days people didn't stay on the computer 24/7 either. If you wanted to find something you either looked it up in a library or found some way to do it yourself.

There is demand and market , there is supply .
Even if there was no search engine, a new way to search around the internet must be created .

And back in then, at the library we used manual search engines for researching a topic: They were called card catalogues. Does anyone else remember those?

Web directory would be kings again and links to web pages. In fact those are how I find great websites, not through search engines.

Somebody will create it no matter what. Otherwise, just like others said, directories will make a huge comeback.

In the absence of search engines, I do not think internet would have flourished the way it has....

Just as similar to an index page in a book, probably directories would have become the guiding part of the internet.

No. People would go to directories to submit their websites and people will go to click on those sites.
