here's a good primer about the duplicate content myth (or truth?!) The Duplicate Content Myth Exposed
That's a nice article BUT i see so many spam blogs ranking high lately, just filled with ripped content...
yes, isn't it. Just like your signature. If you don't think the article is correct, say why. if you agree with it, say why. In fact say ANYTHING, as long as it's useful to other people.
Thanks. Re the spam blogs, give me some examples, I'll go and have a look, and find out WHY they rank. Whatever the reason, it won't be BECAUSE of duplicate content, it will be DESPITE it. Anyway, it's a statistical thing. I can say without any shadow of a doubt that YOU will never win a million on the lottery. But SOMEBODY will. If you understand the analogy, it answers your question. MIllions try, few succeed.
Lately i see many blogger and wp blogs with just one ripped post ranking high, won't show you exact queries cause no one needs to know my niches but they are up there, lots of them lately.
He tells us about the myth by promoting his own website. Genius. I see a lot of websites with "borrowed" content. They put it up, source it, but then win with the other author's hardwork. It is a lame way to build a website.
Interesting article. I guess I'm one of those people who thinks, why WANT to make a ton of money this way? Wouldn't you rather do it in a good way? A credible way? In a way that you can be proud of? This is just a stupid, and cheap way out. Take the time, put in the effort and create something great online! That's what I say....but that's just me. It takes all kinds to make a world....
Yeah, creating great content is still the key. Social networking, on the other hand, helps in getting your words spread like wildfire. So, these two work hand-in-hand.
Uniqeness of content is only a part of the equation. I have auto blogs that rank extremely well (100% unoriginal content). There are so many other factors such as promotion and where you get your content from. As an example, Google is said to penalize sites that don't offer anything unique, this does NOT mean duplicate content. This means duplicate websites. You can have niche sites that scrape the best and most relevant articles from a variety of sites in the niche to make a super sub-niche. This website still provides great content to the user as it narrows down the niche to what they are specifically looking for. People on forums like this are parrots. They hear about dup content penalty and then repeat it to everyone else, before you know it somehow it becomes fact. It isn't so black and white though...
The reason you may have splogs that rank highly is explained in the article. It's DESPITE the unoriginal content, not BECAUSE of it. And as time goes by, you're likely to rank less and less well until you aren't visible at all. The lifespan of a typical dupe content splog (and I should know, I build a few tens of thousands in my misspent youth) is measured in months, not years. And it's 'earning' period is often just weeks. Btw - looking at your sig, maybe you could 'hypnotize' google into giving you top spot for a high paying keyword! edit - your comment about being able to build a 'nexus' of excellence sing dupe content isn't really valid anymore - search engines just got too smart. Unless you'd like to create one for us as proof...
I have read alot about this issue over the last couple of years and there seems to be some consensus now that duplicate content is more about having duplicate content on your own site vs adding content from another site.
I think my site has been banned in Google. It used to have all of these top positions for the past three years, and it suddenly disappeared. Can you help? Answer: In search engine optimization (SEO), there are many terms that are confusing. For example, many firms that specialize in search engine advertising claim that they are search engine marketers, even though search engine marketing encompasses a wide variety of skills (search engine optimization, directory paid inclusion, search engine paid inclusion, vertical search, and search engine advertising).
Duplicate content does for a fact lower your site's rank and can be dropped by Google as spam. I had two websites and they both had duplicate content and only until I changed that would my sites rank properly.
Let’s get this cleared straight up. Google will NOT penalize you for duplicate content in exception if the original author will not send a copyright infringement notice to Google Inc. in that case the URL where the copyrighted content is located will be removed from Google’s index Lets take another scenario, on-site duplicate content. This is very common for wordpress users to have the same content located on several parts of the blog, even for that I have blogged awhile ago on how to remove duplicate content from your wordpress blog. The main reason why you would not want to have the same content located on several parts of your site is one: give more weight to the post page as that is the place where you would want visitors to land and have their information right in front of their nose.
