At my Uni, the descision has been made to hold out and not upgrade to Vista because it is sooo resource intensive that the cost of upgrading all the machines (for 8000 staff & 30000 students) means its not really worth it. I think XP is still a terrific operating system, with the likes of media centre still feeling fresh. However I do like Vista as well.I think Vista was a step in the right direction for the next Gen of operating system and releasing it just now was more of a marketing experiment and testing platform for newer technologies to come. Vistas is grand if your machine is specced well enough (and you know how to fix the registry every once and a while)!
I try to skip every other operating system. To be honest, I see no reason to buy a new operating system when it comes out. Back in 2000 - 2002 microsft released 3 OSs - windows 2000, ME and windows XP. There was no reason to buy ME, its not even supported any longer. The same thing goes for Vista - its going to be another ME edition. In 5 years software companies are not even going to support it.
Was using XP, than vista, right now On Windows 7 beta release. So far its good, pretty much combination of speed of XP and looks of Vista+Mac. And im sure its gonna be big hit after Xp sucess from MS.
yeah, cant believe I am living my dream.. I'm too gonna test windows 7 now. Is the direct step from XP to 7 difficult? as I never had vista on my system... :/
