Everyone says a Yahoo directory listing doesn't pass any PR. I believe otherwise (I'll explain later). I'm referring to the .com version of the directory only. Why is everyone so sure it doesn't pass PR?
Yahoo uses redirects that looks like that:http://rds.yahoo.com/S=27066870:D1/CS=2...www.kidshollywood.com/ Thats not seo friendly, its not live URL, thats why you dont get PR from yahoo. IMO a yahoo dir listing is good for yahoo and google serps + some traffic. There are no pagerank purposes with yahoo directory or im totally wrong,
I agree. The purpose for submitting to Yahoo is not to get page rank passed off to your site, but for the quality of the backlinks that they provide. Having your site listed in Yahoo Directory will hold more weight with the search engines, mainly with Yahoo. They tend to give more respect to your site if you do.
To tell the truth I do not know if they really do or do not. The point that I was trying to make is who cares if they do. Unless you can some how get a link from one of their high pr pages then it is not going to mean much in regards to pr. However, like I said having your listed with them will help your site. After all pr is not what pushes your site to the top of SEs. Keep in mind that when list in Yahoo directory, not only do you get a link from their main directory but you also get links their others as well, for example you will get links from yahoo uk, yahoo canada, yahoo india, yahoo asia, yahoo au, that is all I could remember off the top of my head. Bottom line is if you are looking for quality links to your site them you should list with them. Besides even though Yahoo and Google are not on the same page any more Google still recommends that you list your site with them. I have both of my site listed with them, and so far they have treated me pretty good.
I'm well aware of the benefits and reasons to submit to Yahoo's directory - it's one of our first considerations when promoting a site. Even though that wasn't the question, I'll thank you for offering your opinion.
Surely a link is either SEO friendly or not. If it doesn't pass PR then search engines can't read the link and it'll be of no benefit to you. If they can then it'll pass PR, show up in your backlinks and also benefit your SERPS. Yahoo .com and .co.uk backlinks show up in Google IBL searches also and I firmly believe that they pass PR.
You are right but it should show in Queries like "http://site.com/" etc.. doesn't it mean it will show a word that contain "http://site.com/"? If it is not passing PR How will it help in SEs
I would agree that Yahoo directory listings do indeed pass PR. I know of many sites that have only Yahoo directory backlinks, and show PR.
