Links For The Sake Of Links

    Hi

The site I currently look after has a sub nav menue on some of the pages in the right hand side of the pages.

    See Airtime Manager's BlackBerry section:
    E.g. http://www.airtimemanager.co.uk/blackberry/enterprise/keyfeatures.aspx

Is this REALLY necessary for SEO? I know internal links are important but this sub menue simply clutters the page and serves no real purpose appart from seo.

I would welcome your views on this.

    Thanks

How can you say that menu serves no purpose other than seo? That menu clearly helps your visitors. It leads them directly to more related information. I think whoever set that up did so specifically for your visitors.

It may help seo a bit too because it clusters related content together. So you have links to each blackberry page from other related blackberry pages.

How else would your visitors find those pages if you were to remove that menu?

Unfortunately things like this happen all the time when someone takes over a website that someone else designed. The new owner doesn't necessarily see everything from the viewpoint of the person who designed it.

    Thanks for the comment.

I would agree with what you say but the menu on the right is identical to the menu on the left - or at least that's what the original idea was supposed to be.

If the menu on the left and right are the same would you still say that the menu on the left was necessary?

Sorry I didn't notice that the other menu was essentially the same. In that case, it is not necessary to keep both menus. Personally I think the one on the right is more likely to get clicks. Perhaps you should try removing one of the menus and monitor that page's stats....bounce rate, conversion rate, etc. One thing that menu should do is slightly lower the bounce rate by getting more people to click into the website. That in turn may help rankings.

I can't see two menus now. Looks like you have solved your problem here. Just a suggestion, your theme looks very limited for advertising panels. I think you should upgrade your theme.
