It would help if you had more details on what you want to market. Are you trying to promote a website, an affiliate product, or what?

Start with what you know. Anything is better than nothing, even if it's just directory submissions...

I'd recommend article marketing. Pretty much anyone can do it, so it is a decent system to start with.

What do you want to market?

Who do you want to market to?

What is your marketing budget, if any?

Do you already have a web site?

What is your current level of marketing experience?

Marketing is basically the same for most of the sites out there. Market using forum signatures, blog posts on high traffic blogs, submitting to directories and social bookmarks, working well with Digg.

Yahoo answers, ebay, craiglist, directories, etc. Depends on the product you are marketing.

Your telling fibs, and that's not fair to a newbie. Somebody should remove this comment - it's a cheesy product plug.

Affiliate marketing is not easy. It requires time, dedication, money and continuing education to make any significant income.

But, it can be done - all you have to do is have a plan and stick to it.

If you are looking to market a website, I would highly suggest article marketing (combined with keyword research) and commenting on niche related blogs. Both those methods after 30 days or so will get you some regular traffic and clicks.. keep it up and you'll be on the right path.

It really depends on your skill....if you're starting from scratch, there are so many topics to learn in Internet marketing. To name a few, there’s:

    seo
    ppc
    copy writing
    membership sites
    article/bum marketing
    email marketing
    list building
    web 2.0 like social sites
    youtube
    twitter
    facebook
    myspace
    etc.....

    There are so many.

I would suggest you pick one that fits you and master that one method alone. Learn and do it for 30 days. roll up sleeves, make your hand dirty and work hard on it.

Most people don't make money because they listen too much. Jumping from one method to another and getting nowhere.

I spent 2 months learning how to make money by running polls online. I master this method inside out by learning all necessary knowledge and tools. Now I'm making $100-$150 per day consistently with this method alone.

It's almost passivize income for me now.

This allows me to spend time on other projects and pick up new skills.

there are lots of ways: article mktg, social bookmarking, adwords, banners, press releases - what u really need to fig out is who are your target audience and then choose the medium of mktg accordingly
