Client Vanished - What to Do?

I had a client order and pay for writing services. I'd worked with him before. But he never sent the details this time. I sent a few reminder emails, and each time he said the details were coming. But it's been about three weeks now and I've heard nothing.

Should I keep bugging this guy or leave him alone?

Are you the writer and has he already paid you? If yes, maybe he's just busy and cannot deal with the project now. I suggest you go look for other work in the meantime.

Contact him again, and if you don't hear back, look for other work to fill the time in the meantime.

just keep the money on the side just in case he reclaims it somehow and you won't go negative and like jhmattern said do other work if he paid then he'll come back and if he doesn't after 30 days than you can keep the money according to paypal (if you use it)

I had that happen one time. I made three attempts and never got a respond. I held on to the money for a while and continued with other work. He never showed back up and that was that. If he has responded to you every time you wrote, I would not continue to contact him. the ball is in his court and if you continue to contact him, he may get annoyed and you will ruin any future relationship.

If he contacts you in the future to fulfill the job, do so and thank him for his business. Otherwise, you have done everything you can so keep trying to get other work. I would keep all contacts back and forth though so he can not later claim you did something wrong.

    mstrait, hi
I've been writing (offline) for a while, and have had this happen to me twice. Seems to me you've done what you can, if I was you I'd contact them again, tell them you're keen to do the job when they're ready, but that you have a few other projects you're going to work on in the meantime.
That way you aren't at their beck and call, you're keeping things professional, letting them know you value their business and want to keep the relationship going ... while also letting them know they aren't the only game in town.

Thanks for the advice. I'll contact him once more to let him know I'm working on other projects, but will be glad to work with him when he's ready.

I would suggest getting a client's phone number and/or alternate email address when working with them. I had a client lose their computer to a virus - and they didn't have a computer for three weeks. Why they didn't borrow someone's computer to send me a short message just to let me know what was going on really surprised me - but I guess they were really busy with everything, that happens. :) But lesson learned: you if you can get their telephone number and other ways to get ahold of them - you can usually get the whole story and avoid a lot of stress. :)

Give him his money back and ask him to pay you when he has the details ready.

You don't even know what you are talking about.

Anyways, keep the money for 30 days and don't sell the articles. If he doesn't show up after 30 days, keep the money and sell the articles on DP.

    Good luck

Um, no. You don't have the right to sell articles after 30 days if a client paid for them. The fact that Paypal won't accept returns after that point doesn't mean you can legally keep someone's money and reuse what they paid for.

I agree with the above posters as well. He is probably busy or has to deal with something of significant importance in his life.

I had a client with whom I worked for a good span of 6 months. But in the end, he ran away with my good bunch of articles without paying me.... Sad for such a person to do. He doesn't understand somebody spend hours making that articles.

What is the best way to avoid such situations? Do you know any free escrow services?

Is this client on DP? If so, look at his profile to see when's the last time he logged on. That can give you some indication as to whether he's still alive/has internet access. I'd probably try to contact him via email/PM again. If I didn't hear anything after a few weeks, I'd send a refund.

His profile could also say if he's a magician of sorts which could explain why he disappeared suddenly. But he probably doesn't have the power to get the refund from you so yeah, send him the refund yourself if you don't hear from him soon.

Try and contact him through Facebook, Linkedin, Myspace and other social networks. He might have had an accident, be sick or something. Give him the benefit of the doubt and see what happens.
