Visitors stay for less than 5 seconds

I have a blog that I have recently setup statcounter on.

In the past day that I've been tracking the blog 88% (146) of my visitors have stayed for less than 5 seconds.

Is there anything I can do to turn this around or is it a dead end in terms of getting revenue?

The majority of the visitors come to my site from an image search for which I am the first two images returned in the google image search results.

    Thank you.

You should add quality contents and showcase them, also provide your visitors bookmarking tools and rss feed subscription.

Only the quality of the content will lengthen the stay time.
    Add more quality content

Perhaps your writing is just not grabing them. Search for stuff like "writing compelling headlines" on google.

Try to have some interesting stories.
Make sure that every story is at least 150 words.

This could mean anything or perhaps a combination of several factors.

    Here are some reasons that might be causing your high bounce rate;
~ Visuals - Even if your the best writer in the world, you will loose reader interest if they can't spend time looking at it. Make sure your theme + images are well optimized and 'easy on the eye'
~ Quality Content - Obviously, if your content isn't of interest to the reader, they shall leave. Also check on your spelling/grammar and everything's as you want it to be.
~ Navigation - Nothing makes a visitor more annoyed than not finding what they are looking for, make sure everything to your site is not more than a few clicks away
~ It's boring - Add user interactivity, this will keep them busy for a while ;)

You need another source of traffic.
The vast majority of people coming from image searches are never going to be interested in what's on the rest of the site, they're just interested in the picture, and for 99 times out of 100, they're looking for that picture for reasons completely unconnected to why you've got them on your blog.

Cheers. Will have a think. Its my first proper blog and it would be ashame to waste the traffic.

There are two pages they arrive at out of the 20 or so and they never go beyond the page they arrive at so it could be something to do with the navigation.

A good example on why search engines are overrated for many sites, and why a webmaster shouldn't focus too much on seo.

That's part of the problem right there.

Can't really say any more without first seeing your blog.

Really? So if google pulls the image it counts as a page view?

yes I think so because the page loads in the bottom of the screen, try it yourself, but you can do some tricks like put in some redirect code to your blog when they click the picture, dont ask me how though.

Yeah but the whole page loads in the bottom half of the screen so they are seeing the site.

If they like the content they will stay?

I don't know about your niche but if it anything to do with hot girls then people just want to see the photo!

Try finding out how to redirect automatically once the image loads, I have seen this many times.

The rest of the site is related to the image.

Basically I had a medical issue and made a blog about it and took photos of the issue. Now if someone types in the name of that issue my images are on the top row in the google image search. The blog is about how I got rid of the problem etc and now it has some google adwords on it related to that issue.

I've added the code and now if someone clicks on one of my images it breaks out of the google frame and displays my blog. Now I have to encourage them to click around.

Had 216 unique visits today. Gotta be able to do something with that?

thats really good if you can keep that number

    or

get a deal with someone who solves that medical problem?

I think your answer is in the fact that most of your visitors are arriving via Google image search. I'm sure you know how it works... They click on the link in Google image. They get a framed page with the image at top.. Etc.

They're not there to view your site. They're there to view your image.

What you *can* do, is put some javascript code in that breaks out of the frames and re-renders to your homepage. That's how most of my sites run ;)
