    I use vBulletin personally however some free ones are:
    Vanilla
    PhpBB (in Fantastico)
    SMF Simple Machines Forum (in Fantastico)
    Phorum
    bbPress (from the makers of Wordpress)

    SMF seems to be the main one I see around so probably the best one for templates and add-ons, etc.

    I use SMF myself. Almost all my sites are SMF based. If you wish to see examples then PM Me and i'll show you few sites.. :)

    What about MyBB? Is it not good or not famous? I have selected it to be used by me for my forum. It looks similar to vBulletin and almost have the same features and style.
