I just tried out Vista at my friend's house and it almost feels like an upgraded version of Windows XP. His computer only has 1 GB of ram but it still seems to go pretty fast. Are all the bad rumors that are going around about Vista just a bunch of crap? I was listening to all these rumors which is why I was searching high and low for a new computer with XP on it. After trying Vista, I'm confident enough to buy one of the newer computers that have that OS installed on it.
Biggest and only complaint that I really have is that it is resource intensive. Sucks up your ram and slows down your computer. I have been using it for almost two years.
Indeed. I'm using Vista for about 1 month now and I'm very satisfied with it. So far, I don't see any slow down and the software that I install also work fine without any problem. I guess I have to try the OS first after this before start complaining on it.
Do you have all your programs shut down that are running in the background? If you don't have a lot of ram that could be the problem. Ram is cheap anyways and you can easily add 3 or 4 GB to your system for about $100.
currently I'm using vista ultimate x64 with 6gb ram and I'm taking advantage of my ati 4870x2 directx 10.1, I tried the same specs on xp pro sp3 and vista blew it out of the water I can run any game on high settings with resolution of 1680x1050. I'm waiting for windows 7 now
It depends. I have been using XP since before it came out publically and I guess I'm just used to it. But it is much faster than Vista for file transfer and the likes, which I do alot of. It's also alot more customisable whch I think is a major factor.. Is it just me who absolutely detests Vista's default 'Aero' theme? I see Vista as a operating system that could have been good, but was packed full of useless features to raise it from about 3gb to 15gb.. and making it sluggish and resource intensive. It also acts like I am an idiot - giving me help on the simplest things - which I dislike. This has been true with all of Microsoft's software, but more so with Vista. I see XP as a light and fast operating system which cuts the crap and just gives you what you ask of it.
I've read a bunch of reviews online comparing XP Pro, Vista, and W7, and all of the reviews loves W7. It's faster than XP Pro, looks better than Vista, and its not resource hogger. And boot time is almost thing of the past... You can download W7 for free on Microsoft website, its free until Aug.
Folks, they haven't done Windows 7 yet! What is available for download is a beta and just a beta. That's why it is free to download. The full version will have ALOT more features, to make people buy it rather than download the beta version.
Somebody told me Microsoft is coming out with a new OS in 2010 called Windows Black. Anybody heard of this?
Windows Black? Do you mean Windows XP Black Edition? That's a version of Windows made by fans (lots of useful tools added, optimised to make it faster). It is ofcourse illegal to download unless you already own Windows XP Pro. Well actually I think it's illegal to download anyway because many of the added tools you would usually have to pay for.
It works fine for me, I have used it since it came out and have no complaints. At first it sucked until I changed a few settings, but there are no programs that havent worked or anything. It may use more resources, but it does open a lot of my programs a lot faster than xp did.
Can you install XP programs on a Linux OS? I've never tried Linux but I did see a computer for sale at Walmart that had Linux installed on it.
No. Windows is Windows, Linux is Linux. If you want to run the same software on Linux as you did on Windows, there has to be a Linux version of that software. If you do use Linux (it's free so you might as well), install it in a virtual machine rather than on your actual computer, and don't use Ubuntu. It's all hype, and in reality Ubuntu sucks. Wibblet: All linux distos are free.
I know they're all free but I suggested ubuntu because it's more user friendly than most others and mainly stated it's free didn't want to get too specific, also if you want to try it out look into VMware and try it on windows before actually transitioning into linux.
Well whatever. Some people like it. I guess for a newbie to Linux it's one of the best choices. No Linux distro is as good as Windows for general usage, I think most people will agree, so long as you have good Virus/Malware protection.
Yeah, even I'm pretty fine with vista, having 8 GB ram with AMD Quad core Phenom. But definitely looking forward to windows 7, heard some great reviews about it.
