Is starting an article directory profitable?

I'm thinking of starting an article directory, but I see that there are so many article directories on the web. Is it still profitable?

 

I think article directories are still profitable, but I would start one for a specific niche (not a general article directory).

 

Yes its still have room for new comer.
But you must be creative in your article directory in term of script functionality,user friendly,design.
And the most important thing is the rules such as treating all user with fair and not approve and content that contain illegal thing.

Yes, website owners will find your site fairly quickly. Send out a press release and comment on forums to get the word out.

If you have enough money to invest in completely unique CMS and design and to promote the website, than probably yes. But if you plan to use some article directory script and make another clone with the exact same features, and duplicate content, than no, the world don't need another article directory. There is plenty of money to be made with article directories. We learned early on it's not the best idea to use an article directory script that thousands of others are using. Someone earlier mentioned being "unique" and they are absolutely right. If you can set yourself apart from the field (there will still be some similarities, your directory can become an authority).

Those using free scripts generally provide article directories for a specific niche. Something to think about as you embark on your journey. Good luck!

 

I made one, and had between 1 to 3$ per day. Not so good.

 

Not really attractive in current day. But the question was asked in 2009 when it was indeed a profitable venture.

 

I think these days article directory is not really profitable business. After Google Panda Updates lots of article websites punished heavily.
