I forget the race car drivers name, but I saw one Nascar guy create one on his site looking for sponsors the same way he fills his car with logos, and his jacket. He actually made the pixel not a square, but the shape of his race jacket. Seems to be filling up.

Probably a good idea if you already have publicity going, and are just looking for addional money.

For me the pixel thing, all that publicity etc, kick started a desire to learn which was cool - should have done that ages ago  ! Personally I don't think Alex was the first person to think of that idea but the genius of the guy was that he did something about it - good for him. Not sure it's the end...

It was an original idea at the time and he made money on it but all of the copy cats showed up quickly... anyone thinking about spending time creating a pixel site I would say don't... come up with your own original idea and work on that!

    Hi all,

from my experience I am also finding that potential advertisers are seeing how the pixels they buy do not actually generate any decent leads to their sites. I am looking for advertisers on my website and was offering some real cheap advertising, not pixels but full sized banners. most of them just fobbed me off as I mentioned I had found them on the Milliondollar/pound/penny etc homepage.:(

they all said that it was not worthwhile for them and would definately not do it again!

I would not personally try and create a new pixel page as I feel that the only people who would but the adverts are the people that have never heard about it. thats just my opinion and no intentions to put anyone off the idea!

I am finding my site impossible to market and advertise at the moment. its something that has not been done yet, and is not a money making site either so could not imagine trying to maket one that its sole purpose was to make one person rich would be like.

I am not sure if anyone has done a charity pixel site yet, although would not make anyone rich, but whether you could do something like that with the majority of money going there!! that may have a more appealing twist! but maybe there is one already!

Perhaps you're thinking of milliondollarmansell.com? He's not a Nascar driver though so perhaps there are a couple more of these variants.

    Hi Kowdot.

I have seen your site before, and your right it is nice and different.
I have a site too which is nothing like pixels or 50x50 chunks like yours. I have 30,000 full sized banner ads of different sizes on mine.

just a bit of advice if your willing to give it, how are you going about advertising your site etc? have you got any tips? and have you had any rip-off sites yet?? just the way you have posted your link and given out your idea. I am reluctant to give out mine incase someone with a huge budget see's it and goes..i'll do that and takes it with much more financial backing than me lol!

would just be nice to hear someone who is not having as much of a nightmare as me tryingot launch a site to keep me going lol:D

The honest truth is that I have no clue about advertising a site, however I am learning fast. I guess that's the reason I signed up here - there are loads of very knowledgeable people here at DP so I'm just asking lots of questions and reading loads!

I guess I'm not too worried about someone copying my idea - my site was not to make a million it was to learn about web design etc. Saying that some people are now using my site so little by little... I do need to market it since I reckon I've got an ok idea - but saying that if it's a good idea and the users gain then that's the key me thinks. Unfortunately only one person in the website review forum has reviewed my site so I was thinking it can't be very good lol!

If anyone has any ideas I could use pls let me know ;)

It would probably be easier to develop and sell an alternative to the Windows operating system. Why think millions when billions could be had.(note sarchasm)

    jcomm,

An interesting idea but why is this true "Why waste money on an image pixel ad that provides no search engine benefit to your web site?"

Just updated www.squidlinks.com (it's not a pixel site!) - hopefully you will all like the new look. jcomm you might like to get a free squidlink to promote your site.

To best honest, I was actually thinking about buying a pixel ad on a blog I read a lot. He offers a pixel for $50/lifetime. I figured it would be a great way to promote on a related site with a lot of traffic.

I've never tried it before but some of these posts are scaring me off....

You'd be better off buying some decent links from related sites.
