Might I add a suggestion for your stats.... It is easy enough these days to register a dropped domain that has PR on it already. So I can see the stats being very easily skewed. Do you take this into account? If not, it would be a much better statistical resource if you were able to bind the age of the domain along with the PR stats. Follow me? Rob
I agree that the dropped domains affect the results, but often these often domains drop quickly in the next couple of updates. Thus, the number of new directories with dropped domains is relatively low. In regards to the age of the domain, the only problem is that the age of the domain won't tell us if it was a dropped domain or not. Am I missing something here.
thing about that is that there are so so many that get dropped and registered. which really do skew that output, making it seem as if directories respective pr are on the rise. doing a whois, an info: and link: in google, checking in archive.org etc etc, should be enough info to determine whether dropped or not, new or old...
Good idea. I'll set it up. We just have to find someone to go through the 12,000 directories. Once that is done we would have to start maintaining the info.
Great! glad I could offer some constructive input. You should be able to even break it down into age groups and PR. Throwing in a little AJAX for on-screen scalability would be a nice touch. Well, that is, if you would decide to offer the page on your website for others to view. I do think that would attract quite a lot of visitors Rob
Rob Sounds like you have some great ideas. I have trouble keeping up with what is currently on my plate. I actually PMd you a month ago about doing some work on the site. Let me know if you have some time.
Thanks for the encouragement Brent. As far as work, I do have quite a bit still to tend with. I have had to postpone at least 1 major job due to workload. I did however, because it was my suggestion, was write up this quick and dirty domain age script today. It actually speaks to internic.net, but the flaw in it, is that not all domains appear to be able to post back to it, due to insufficient data not being available. Like digialpoint.com, directorydump.com etc show fine, while sites like google.com, msn.com, yahoo.com seem to have been blocked, I guess due to god knows why try it and see for yourself. I'll let you know if/when I become available. Rob
Good stuff. Thanks. I guess what I would need is something to walk through the database and add a new field with the domain create date. I bookmarked your script. One minor thing. You screen ask for the URL while it should ask for the domain.
