Can Adsense CPM really pay?

I have always thought that these type of ads would only ever earn a few pennies here and there, but I have noticed that they seem to be turning up an awful lot at the moment. I just wonder if CPM ads can be profitable to those sites that suck up monster traffic?

A good example would be Myspace who I imagine would struggle from clickthroughs as people just surf the site to network and chat, whilst with most other blogs/sites, people are looking for information and guidance and will be more likely to click on ads. Despite this, Myspace receives millions and millions of unique hits a day. I am not sure if they sell space on their site either?

How much do you think such a site could earn that reaches a million uniques a day solely of CPM ads? I know some areas pay more than others, but I wonder what would be the maximum payout? Are we talking £30/£50/£100 + a day? I am sure that most sites with that kind of traffic are bound to get some clicks, but still, it is interesting to think that it is possible to make good earnings without the requirement of a user clicking on an ad, or even going on to make an affiliate commission etc.

Would be interesting to here some ideas on this topic. Thanks.

If you have a ton of traffic that rarely converts, yes. Otherwise I don't see the possibility to make a whole lot of money from them.

Let say if they put an ads google box. Then the box said "advertise here". Do you think people will advertise there? Dozens of peoples will advertise there :)

unless you have 1 million traffic in 1 week, CPM can make you rich, I have bad experience with CPM bcause I dont have enough traffic to my website, text ads convert better.

I don't think Myspace couldn't get click on adsense. Millions of people are using it, and a lot of them are looking for any interesting subject available on Myspace.

I bet the CTR is low. It is rumoured that they generate around $30 million per month in advertising revenue though which is plenty.

Does anyone have a fair idea what the average CPM rate paid to a publisher is? Is it around $0.50 per 1000? And how many CPM impressions would an average unique visitor make? I am just trying to work out how much someone could earn from CPM ads alone via monster traffic! Cheers again.

CPM varies depending on the site and advertisers which usually is related to what you have posted. So if you want to know the higher CPM, check it on at google adsense site including the most searched ad words. Though it won't make you big amount of money, but in traffic that you can get more clicks though.
