A simple astore by itself, especially on a default template will not get you anywhere without a crap load of links, and article marketing, but even still, by itself, it will not convert well.
You have to do the work. Astores are not stand alone solutions, if so everyone would just sign up to Amazon, plop down some product and all make 6 figures a year.

The best way, in my experience, to make sale with an astore is to embed it into a successful blog. You need the content and the SEO benefits from the content to draw traffic and search results. The store by itself will never be indexed in a way to get you anywhere on its own.

hey hmansfield, its really shocking idea. then how we can find successful blog that we can allowed to add our amazon widget on it. Can you give some some examples, do we have to pay to the blog owner?

I wasn't saying to find a blog, I meant to create a blog in the niche of the products that you want to sell. You need the content to capitalize on search results. Just a listing of the products alone will not get you indexed.

It will also give you opportunity to promote other programs on the same site. 2 of the sites in my sig have astores embedded (MFA and Club Life and I also have astores here, here and here) and it works out well for me but it is not easy, and I also make money with other programs on the same sites.

Of course if you can find a blog that uses guest bloggers in exchange for monetization of your content, like I do on some of mine, then that would be one opportunity to do so.

I have seen astores ranked, which the owners have done by some serious article marketing and link building, but your own blog will give much more opportunity that just relying on the astore alone to place well.

I put up a little tutorial of how to embed them easily into your blog here.

It is the most common question asked here on this forum. You can make money with an astore, but in my experience, you can't do it with just the store alone. You have to look around you and look at the web. The astore is a wonderful tool. Amazon has done a great job providing such a great way to promote the products, but, you have to provide more.
There are many solutions around like Pure Web Dev, who is very helpful in this forum, AOM stores and many others. An astore is the most cost effective way, in that it's free, but the web is more dynamic everyday, and you have to meet the challenge to attract peoples short attention span.

Just plopping up an astore, you are hoping to catch people at the right time, when they are ready to buy, and want to buy from you, but there are many stages to the buying process and there is no one here that can say, an astore by itself, can compete with some of the more dynamic shopping portals that do the exact same thing. It is not. And it is futile to put in $5,000 worth of SEO time, to attract people to a free hosted site standing alone, that is for the most part, pretty plain.

You have to go the extra mile.

Find some back link to your astore. It is effective if you have websites with high PR and link to your astore.

Yes, that is a great theory, but do you know any high PR websites that are going to link to a stand alone astore that cannot return the link ?
How many of you with stand alone astores have been successful in finding someone to link to your store ?

If I have a PR 3, 4, or 5, blog or website, why would I link to someones astore ? For a 3 way link from another site ?

I started a blog with wordpress on a subdomain. Bought some articles since i don't know much about my product. Embedded a couple of astores on pages (they don't embed that well on narrow blog posts or pages. i am making html files tonight.) Linked it to a Myspace account I created just to promote the whole ordeal. I will bulletin and blog regularly on Myspace. I plan to post on other blogs and forums with link in signature. I submitted a url to Google. Hooked it up with analytics. I need to put some adsense on and code amazon Omakase at the beginning and end of my singlepost php in WP. Am i missing anything? Oh I've been digging and stumbling, and writing ezine content as well. No ezine articles accepted yet though. Peep it at www dot twilight dot idrockthat dot com
I gotta fix that dang picture.

Those are very well embedded A Stores!

One question, how did you get the search bar to come up without having all of the navigation show with it?

NEVER MIND! I JUST ANSWERED MY OWN QUESTION

Its late and I am off to bed.

I used article marketing and press releases to promote my Astore. Most of my articles appeared on the first page of Google for their keywords. I had the best luck with Ezine Articles and Article Dashboard.

Maybe you can hire me:D? I can rank high in Live SE but I'm not good in Google because stand alone astore usually can't compete with parent site.
